General Description of PACES:

PACES is a UK based charity established in 2006, with the aim of providing healthy, structured after-school sports programs for Palestinian girls and boys ages 6-16 years living in refugee camps and most marginalized areas in Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon. Through its core sports for development program, PACES provides children with multiple educational benefits to help them thrive in their own communities. PACES also builds local capacity by training and hiring leaders in the local communities as coaches to deliver the sports program, and partnering with local clubs and sports centers to facilitate the outreach and delivery of the program. 

 

Since establishment, PACES has served over 35,000 children, 2,350 young female and male coaches, and over 200 local sports clubs. PACES’ program promotes gender equality, and has successfully reached and maintained a 50% female participation rate.

General Description of the Role:

The Program Officer is responsible for the implementation of PACES’ ongoing program activities in Jordan. S/he will play an essential part in the success of the PACES program along with other members of the team in Jordan and the region. The work will mainly focus on proper planning and implementation of the program components, followed by monitoring and reporting. S/he will be conducting program field visits to the areas of which PACES Jordan implements its activities; including marginalized areas and Palestinian refugee camps in Amman, Balqaa, Madaba, Zarqaa, Mafraq, Jerash, Irbid and others.

 

Reporting to PACES Country Manager – Jordan, the Program Officer will work closely with the Sports Development Officer, M&E and PACES regional team. S/he will also work closely with partners and other local organizations to coordinate and facilitate activities that serve PACES’ beneficiaries.

 

The Program Officer will be accountable for ensuring that all activities are implemented in adherence with PACES’ standard policies and procedures, and Code of Conduct.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Program & Activities:

  • Contribute to the design of PACES annual program plan
  • Prepare monthly activities plan and budget for PACES and monitor their progress of completion
  • Plan and implement a schedule of field visits to ensure proper implementation of activities in coordination with other program team members
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for program activities, including organizing and implementing meetings, workshops, and events
  • Support outreach activities to identify new possible partnerships and stakeholders in targeted areas
  • Coordinate the delivery of program activities, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards
  • Assist in developing training material and delivering trainings and workshops required to enhance capacities of program beneficiaries
  • Organize program events, sports fun days, and tournaments as per the program design, standards and workplan
  • Contribute to raising awareness about sports, health, and social related topics that support program beneficiaries and stakeholders
  • Maintain records and database of program beneficiaries and other program-related information as requested
  • Contribute to the procurement process of the program essential material and equipment, as well as manage store inventory as per PACES procurement policies and guidelines
  • Work closely with and provide support to other program team members
  • Ensure compliance with PACES policies, guidelines, donor requirements, and relevant regulations are implemented
  • Ensure upholding the safety and security of beneficiaries, with a particular focus on children, and offer recommendations in line with PACES Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Participate and represent PACES in meetings, events, training courses, and others

Networking & Engagement:

  • Take part in communicating with partners, donors, and beneficiaries to gather feedback, share updates, and facilitate collaboration
  • Ensure maintaining positive relationships with partners, donors and beneficiaries to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability
  • Manage communication between program beneficiaries in the area of implementation and PACES
  • Communicate with partners, consultants, or third-party service providers on specific projects when needed.

Reporting & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Prepare and present periodic reports as requested by Country Manager, including weekly and monthly progress reports, and activities budget reports, and ensure all reports are accurate and comprehensive in a timely manner
  • Support the development and implementation of M&E plans and activities to track program progress and outcomes
  • Collect, and compile data to assess program performance and inform decision-making
  • Regular knowledge sharing with regional team members related to Jordan program
  • Work closely with the communications team on providing visual and narrative content
  • Ensure program key information and data is kept safely
  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the Country Manager

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in social or behavioral sciences, business administration, management, sports management, or a related field.
  • At least four years of experience in the development sector, humanitarian sector, or football/basketball field. Experience in the sports for development sector is a plus.  
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, spoken and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports in Arabic and English.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, cross-cultural).
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Strong networking and representational skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to different environments and flexible work setups, and thrive in team environment. 
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Ability to travel abroad
  • A valid driving license
