General Description of PACES:

PACES is a UK based charity established in 2006, with the aim of providing healthy, structured after-school sports programs for Palestinian girls and boys ages 6-16 years living in refugee camps and most marginalized areas in Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon. Through its core sports for development program, PACES provides children with multiple educational benefits to help them thrive in their own communities. PACES also builds local capacity by training and hiring leaders in the local communities as coaches to deliver the sports program, and partnering with local clubs and sports centers to facilitate the outreach and delivery of the program. 

 

Since establishment, PACES has served over 35,000 children, 2,350 young female and male coaches, and over 200 local sports clubs. PACES’ program promotes gender equality, and has successfully reached and maintained a 50% female participation rate.

General Description of the Role:

The Sports Development Officer – Football will be responsible for the development and proper implementation of sports activities of PACES’ sports for development program. Reporting directly to the PACES Jordan Country Manager and working closely with program team, s/he will also assist in planning and implementation of PACES program activities. She/he will also contribute to developing PACES talents and building capacities of PACES coaches. S/he will be conducting technical field visits to the areas of which PACES Jordan implements its activities; including marginalized areas and Palestinian refugee camps in Amman, Balqaa, Madaba, Zarqaa, Mafraq, Jerash, Irbid and others.

 

Reporting to PACES Country Manager – Jordan, the Sports Development Officer will work closely with the Program Officer, M&E and PACES regional team. S/he will also work closely with partners and other local organizations to coordinate and facilitate activities that serve PACES’ beneficiaries.

 

The Sports Development Officer will be accountable for ensuring that all activities are implemented in adherence with PACES’ standard policies and procedures, and Code of Conduct.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program & Activities:

  • Contribute to the design of PACES annual program plan
  • Prepare monthly activities plan and monitor their progress of completion
  • Plan and conduct regular weekly field visits to sports training sessions as per the program design
  • Support planning and implementation of PACES’ Sports for Development Program activities in general, including but not limited to fun days, tournaments, and boot camps
  • Support the development and implementation of tailored football activities to different age groups based on the program needs
  • Organize and coordinate football events, tournaments, and games to showcase talent and provide the players with competitive opportunities
  • Conduct football specialized trainings for the talented children enrolled in the program, according to the program annual plan
  • Develop technical training plans for children and coaches enrolled in specialized training activities
  • Review technical reports and training plans submitted by program coaches, and share feedback and recommendation with PACES team
  • Provide support and resources for the continuous development of the coaches and staff to ensure high standard of coaching
  • Follow up and monitor the technical development of children and coaches enrolled in the program
  • Follow up and monitor the talented children under PACES partnerships
  • Support the management team in identifying training opportunities for PACES coaches
  • Plan and deliver workshops and training sessions to enhance technical and life skills of PACES coaches
  • Support in identifying local, regional, and international tournaments for PACES to participate in and preparing for any
  • Contribute to the technical assessment of the local partners and program beneficiaries
  • Ensure upholding the safety and security of beneficiaries, with a particular focus on children, and offer recommendations in line with PACES Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Support identification of required sports equipment and material
  • Work closely with program team in Jordan and the region

 

Networking & Engagement:

  • Maintain positive relationships with partners, donors, sports federations and beneficiaries to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability
  • Support communication between program beneficiaries in the area of implementation and PACES
  • Support partnerships established with other sports organizations, federations, PACES partners and beneficiaries to host and promote PACES program
  • Represent PACES in meetings and other relevant events as needed

 

Reporting: 

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly technical reports  as requested by Country Manager covering field visits in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate records of the program including partners and children records
  • Support in reviewing PACES football curriculum, delivering training to beneficiaries and monitoring curriculum implementation
  • Support the technical development and overall evaluation of PACES beneficiaries and make recommendations on possible improvements and interventions
  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the Country Manager

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in physical education or sport related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in training and coaching, experience in the sports for development sector is a plus
  • Holder of an official football coaching certification (minimum Level B, recommended Level A)

 

Essential Skills:

  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Very strong organizational skills, and ability to manage changing workload
  • Strong communication skills in English and Arabic (written, oral)
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to different environments and setups
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Ability to travel within Jordan and abroad
  • A valid driver's license
