The Psychosocial Support and Trauma Work Project in Jordan (PSS) is seeking a “Health advisor - Capacity building in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in communities for full-time base employment.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • University degree and applied advanced trainings in areas that are relevant for the main activities, such as psychology, counselling, mental health, social work, project management, sociology, public health
  • At least 7 years professional experience in a comparable position
  • Experience in coordinating and advising international projects and/or community-based organisations focusing on psychosocial support
  • Experience in developing, implementing and improving trainings and/or (university) courses
  • Experience in facilitating dialogues and learning, coordinating stakeholders and managing projects in host communities in Jordan, ideally including skills in system thinking and iterative approaches such as PDIA, Theory U or Human Learning Systems
  • Experience in working with host communities and refugees in Jordan
  • Good knowledge of the situation of refugees and host communities in Jordan and recent trends/ priorities in psychosocial support
  • Good communication skills (writing and speaking) in English and Arabic, and proven skills to work in an intercultural context
  • Very good working knowledge of ICT technologies and computer applications (e.g., MS Office/MS Teams and other applications

Main responsabilities: 

The position holder is responsible for coordinating and ensuring implementation of good and sustainable project activities around capacity-building for community-based psychosocial support. This is done by cooperating mainly with community-based organisations and universities, as well as with Ministry of Health and other stakeholders. The position holder is responsible for the overall coordination of project component, including planning, advise, coordination or implementation and documenting of measures towards

  • Universities offering courses and organisations offering trainings to build skills for psychosocial support in communities.
  • CBOs in Zarqa and Mafraq providing high quality psychosocial support services and collaborating in initiatives around support for specific groups such as women, children, persons with disabilities and/or mental health issues, psychosocial support providers (staff care).   • Cooperation, coordination, peer support and networking among organisations and practitioners from Zarqa and Mafraq, promoting innovation and increasing sustainability of psychosocial support.

Some of the main activities include

1. Advising the partner institution(s)

The advisor

  • provides technical advice, facilitation and trainings to the Community-based organisations and universities to strengthen learning, coordination, collaboration and communication for high quality and sustainability of psychosocial support services to the communities
  • Explores and promotes ways towards helpful use for social media, apps, internet and other digital devices to strengthen psychosocial support
  • supports universities in strengthening courses or other offers for teaching psychosocial support skills and for coordinating their activities and internship programs with the community-based organizations drives to the communities (Zarqa and Mafraq), assess, find ways for capacity building and follow up, designs and implements measures to enhance their psychosocial support services,
  • monitors, documents, reports and reflects on activities, learns and contributes to learning
  • Develops and writes TOR and contracts for consultants, defining and assessing quality criteria for implementation and learning, following up on their implementation

2. Networking and cooperation

The advisor

  • develops and maintains contact with all important stakeholders (governmental and non-governmental) as part of the project
  • communicates and interacts with government institutions, non-governmental agencies and community based organisations and participates in meetings and seminars etc
  • Collaborates closely with consultants or partners, contributing to jointly strengthening activities towards high quality and sustainability

3. Coordination tasks

  • Contributes to general project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • compiles the relevant information for joint activities and assignments
  • supports the team with all relevant aspects concerning the implementation of the project
  • Coordinates, prepares and documents workshops, meetings and other activities​
