Librarian position

We are looking for an experienced librarian with a passion for learning and books to join our team.

The Librarian will ensure that the library runs smoothly on a daily basis, and all visitors are happy with our services. Also, some important librarian tasks you’ll undertake include acquiring, organizing, cataloging, and maintaining books, periodicals, digital media, and other materials.

Qualifications:

• Understanding of child development and children’s literature, acquired by at least one of the following ways: Bachelor’s degree in library science or related field, or three years’ experience working with children preferably in a library.
• Demonstrates ability to focus on details.
• Adheres to Library policies, procedures and standard practices.
• Demonstrates ability to organize work and to carry through established procedures.
• Performs duties in a courteous and friendly manner.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays and to adapt to schedule changes on

short notice.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and organize library inventory (e.g. with books, materials, etc.).
• Oversee the library to ensure cleanliness, order, and protection of the library’s resources.
• Conduct regular checks and updates on database information.
• Help visitors research reading materials and references.
• Conduct activities (e.g. children’s storytelling, author readings, reading competition, etc.)
• Plan the arrangement and display of children’s materials and seasonal decorations under the supervision of the Library Content Developer.
• Evaluate and maintain the children’s collections and make recommendations for collection development based on needs, usage levels, and relevance of materials.
• Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements and skills:

• Three years of experience as a librarian.
• A Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field is a plus.
• Understanding of child development and children’s literature.
• Experience using computers and working with electronic databases.

• Familiarity with KOHA system.
•  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

• Strong organizational skills.
• Effective communication.
• Ability to multitask.
• A patient and friendly personality.
• Ability to speak/present in front of an audience of various ages.
• Demonstrated knowledge of popular materials and/or literacy works for children.
• Experience working with children.
• Very good command of English, spoken and written.
• Native Arabic speaker with excellent writing and reporting skills.
