Mercy Corps responsibilities

For the duration of this internship assignment, the intern will receive a laptop and a Mobile phone with SIM card ID and Access cards. Mercy Corps will also be responsible to provide transport (Mercy Corps vehicles) for field trips related to the internship tasks. In case of trips that require overnight stays to a field location, Mercy Corps will be responsible to cover the cost of accommodation and provide per diem as per Mercy Corps per diem policy.

The Supervisor is responsible to agree with the intern at the start of his/her assignment on the learning objectives and will review progress against those objectives at half-term and provide feedback to the intern.

Intern responsibilities

Intern will remain responsible for all other costs associated with the internship.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of the internship will be to assist Mercy Corps Jordan subgrants team with the administrative and financial management of different subgrants, working closely with the Subgrants officer and senior Coordinator to collect information and assess capacity of potential subgrantees, to review financial reports submitted, prepare documentation for new subgrants, and finalize the archiving and closing of ended subgrants.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

- Learn about the subgrating process from selection of the subgrantee, assessment of the subgrantee capacity to the management of the subgrants during implementation and close-out of the subgrants.

- Learn about sound financial management practices of grants through the review of subgrantee financial reports and supporting documents for expenses as well as through assessment of financial management capacity of various partners.

- Learn about the different types of subgrant agreements, their advantages and disadvantages and applicability.

- Gain work experience in an international nongovernmental organization with solid procedures and systems in place.

- Gain experience in development work in various sectors including governance, economic development, and youth centered programs.

- Work within a Team experience.

DELIVERABLES:

- Successful start-up of new subgrants with our community strengthening project with all documentation for the signature of a subgrant agreement collected, filled, and analyzed,

- Successful close-out of subgrants under the assigned project with complete close-out process completed and subgrants files checked and fully reviewed.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or any other related field.

- Strong interest in the development sector, and in Mercy Corps mission and vision,

- Flexible and adaptable personality with strong willingness to learn

- Ability to organize and work independently and within teams.

- Ability to use MS Word and Excel

- Good verbal and written communication skills, especially in Arabic and English

- Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of Mercy corps
