GENERAL FUNCTION

Internews is seeking a Communications Manager for the “USAID Strengthening Civil Society and Media Systems Activity (Sawt)”. The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing Sawt communications strategy and plan, including the promotion of Sawt and subgrantees activities, creating and maintaining social media presence, and complying with branding requirements with the overall aim of conveying accurate and timely information about Sawt to various audiences, including USAID, partners, beneficiaries and the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are listed below; other duties may be assigned.

• Lead the promotion of Sawt work and its subgrantees using various media platforms and in accordance with the USAID requirements.
• Prepare and monitor a communications strategy, branding strategy and social media engagement plan for Sawt project and adjust and adapt such documents during the course of the project implementation.
• Ensure compliance with Sawt project branding requirements in accordance with USAID's branding and marking guidelines and approved messages.
• Develop templates and guidance for the use of the project team, partners, and beneficiaries to ensure compliance to branding and messaging guidelines.
• Take photos and video as and when required.
• Coordinate closely with external contracted consultants and firms on communications and promotional materials and activities.
• Create, manage and maintain Sawt’s online presence (webpage and/or social media platforms).
• Lead and manage the drafting of key Sawt documents, such as quarterly reports, annual work plans, weekly reports, annual reports, newsletters, and other key documents of Sawt.
• Participate in site visits to Sawt’s target audiences and landscapes. Collect and develop success stories and testimonials etc.
• Draft speeches and talking points for Sawt senior management as well as write press releases, one-pagers, factsheets and social media communication for public dissemination.
• Submit requests to USAID for all media documents, speeches and events in accordance with USAID outreach and communications procedures.
• Provide media, communication and event management support for Sawt.
• Coordinate closely with Sawt partners and grantees to ensure quality communication and event management for the project in accordance with branding and visibility guidelines.
• Develop a media network and mailing lists to ensure high-level visibility and outreach for Sawt activities.

• Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to ensure program visibility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role supervises Sawt communications staff based in Jordan in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, PR, journalism or related field.

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of experience in communications and media relations in the fields of media, civil society and/or development.
• Experience in managing the communications portfolio for USAID funded projects.
• Experience in event management.
• Experience in online presence management (website and/or social media platforms).
• Experience in producing multimedia and graphic design.

Skills

• Excellent writing and editing skills in both the Arabic and English languages.
• Having innovative ideas, mastering social media and other communications tools.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Excellent inter-personal skills to ensure effective and collegial relations with the media as well as Sawt partners, beneficiaries and team members.

Ability and permission to work and reside in Jordan without Internews sponsorship.
