Job Title: Media, Communications and Advocacy Coordinator


Location: Base location: Amman Jordan, with travel to field locations up to 70% of time.

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Country Director, the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for the development and implementation of a communications and advocacy strategy for Islamic Relief Jordan. The role will focus on strategic and high-quality content production and advocacy efforts to support relationship building both internally and externally. The post holder will also coordinate closely with other departments including programmes and MEAL to inform and advance communications and advocacy strategies.

Responsibilities:

Communications:

Is responsible for:

  • The production of all visual and multimedia elements of IR Jordan public engagement, including design, creation and/or acquisition of customized visual and multimedia content, which is disseminated online, in person or via traditional IR Worldwide channels.
  • Create compelling visual content for all IR Jordan outreach materials by assessing visual aspects of IRJordan media environment, public preferences for visual content formats and dissemination channels, and the impact of IR Jordan visual materials.
  • Manage and produce written and visual/multimedia content for email listserv, website, and social media networks to raise the visibility of the Islamic Relief Jordan. 
  • Develop and post regular content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and other social media platforms
  • Lead in planning and managing projects that use visuals, video, and/or multimedia storytelling to support the IRJ work. Potential projects could include producing short web videos or infographics on timely issues.
  • Work with IRJ team members to generate and release media advisories, press releases, policy papers and and statements and proactively pitch outlets around key issues.
  • Works directly with the Programs Staff and CD, Regional Communications, and section Programs heads as well as high-level visitors to design and capture audiovisual and written content to advance IRJordan priorities and engage with key Jordanian audiences.
  • Collect and document project stories for sharing, learning and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with staff in general planning and review meetings and reports.
  • Support the development of the local programmes content to ensure they are of high quality and in line with project and programme targets.
  • Participate in capacity building of staff where appropriate and relevant.
  • Undertake any other work that is requested for on-going IR Jordan projects during the duration of the contract and which the management team deem that the officer has the skills to support and/or contribute to for the further development of projects within the organization.
  • Facilitate production of IR Jordan annual report and other periodic reports on as and when required basis.
  • Establish and manage a cadre of daily paid workers at field level to capture different events and collect media material and other such assignments on need basis.
  • Coordinate and supervise partnership with service providers, if required, related to communication.   
  • Manages the day to-day oversight and use of the IR Jordan equipment.

 

Advocacy:

Is responsible for:

  • To lead, coordinate and communicate IR Jordan advocacy strategy.
  • To design, organize events, meetings, and advocacy campaigns to ensure that the advocacy plan is active and moving forwards. 
  • Engage with partners in line with the advocacy and communications objectives and positively influence decision makers, Donors, Partners.
  • Ensure there is continuous information flow on advocacy events, meetings, initiatives between IR Jordan and other key Stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective communication between IR Jordan and its partners, including representing IR Jordan at meetings with partners.
  • Whenever possible undertake exciting and interesting initiatives to complement the impact of IR Jordan and its programmes.

 

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Minimum of a university degree in communication, social science, behavioral change communication, strategic communication, journalism, public relations, or related fields.
  • Experience in Advocacy work with marginalised and vulnerable groups.
  • Excellent (fluent) oral/written communication skills in English and Arabic language.
  • Minimum 4 years  of experience in implementing and managing communication or advocacy projects or campaigns in aid and developing context at a senior position and orof progressively responsible experience in design, creation, and packaging of visual and multimedia content for digital marketing,
  • Must provide a portfolio of original work demonstrating visual and multimedia design competence.

 

Analytical skills:

  • Must have strong analytical skills to identify target audiences and understand how IR Jordan use of images, graphics, video, Text, and audio can affect their sensitivities.
  • Must be able to perceive the emergence of new audience preferences and trends in information consumption and visual and multimedia norms, in order to produce targeted digital or traditional visual content in support of IR Jordan internal and external engagement.
  • Must be able to analyse content from multiple sources (internal and third-party) and determine when and how to use it in IR Jordan visual products.

 

Communication/People skills:

  • Must have excellent, documented visual storytelling, written, and oral communication skills to create and adapt visual, audio, and printed material for dissemination in English and Arabic languages.
  • Must have strong people skills to maintain IR Jordan-wide collaboration on the creation of visual and multimedia content in support of IR Jordan public engagement.
  • Must be able to contribute to IR Worldwide discussions of priority engagement, strategic content, and use of visual and audio materials and dissemination channels.
  • Must have excellent customer relations and interpersonal cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Must be able to tailor communications to fit formal and informal situations and different ethnic, religious, and linguistic cultures.
  • Must be able to speak publicly; must be able to interpret between English and Arabic for discussions of content production.

 

 

Technical skills:

  • Must have detailed knowledge of multiple formats, digital tools, and platforms for visual content creation, editing (audio, visual, multimedia, and graphic), and distribution through traditional and digital channels.
  • Must be able to create and use photo and video sharing sites, video, and other digital products, and be familiar with webinars.
  • Must be skilled in use of digital software and editing tools, content databases, and reporting tools.
  • Must be familiar with audience analysis and analytic tools (i.e., Hootsuite, Google Analytics, et al).
  • Must have good numerical skills to be able to use statistical analyses of audience segments and track impact of IR Jordan digital products.

 

Availability:

 

Must be available to travel throughout Jordan to develop professional contacts and create content

(photo/video of Projects, Visits programs, etc.).
