Media Capacity Building Officer

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Media Capacity Building Officer for the “USAID Strengthening Civil Society and Media Systems Activity (Sawt)” under the supervision of the Media Team Lead will be responsible for designing and coordinating activities related to the provision of training, mentoring, and capacity building support to media partners, as well as conducting media-related research, coordinating digital safety support, and offering media support resources. S/he will work closely with the Sawt Media Team and other cross functional support teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are listed below; other duties may be assigned.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of activities seeking to support local media partners’ business, organizational, content, editorial, and technological capacities.
  • Participate in conducting research to map and identify potential support beneficiaries and implementers.
  • Facilitate communications between different teams to ensure smooth coordination in carrying out media support activities.
  • Work closely with organizations/consultants identified to deliver activities and/or provide support for media partners under the Sawt project, ensuring quality planning and delivery of activities, as well as alignment with Sawt/Internews policies, as applicable.
  • Act as a focal point on the digitization of Sawt media support resources for effective use of online platforms.
  • Act as a focal point for coordinating the delivery of digital security support for media and civil society partners, including trainings, organizational assessments, curricula development, and awareness-raising, carried out by hired external consultants or Internews internal experts.
  • Deploy metrics tools (such as Google Analytics and Facebook Insights) to gauge and report on the performance of Sawt-led and supported media partners’ online campaigns.
  • Contribute to the development of project reports and success stories, in close collaboration with other members of the Sawt Media and Communications Teams.
  • Work closely with project partners, stakeholders, and beneficiaries, attending project activities, carrying out monitoring and site visits, and networking as needed.
  • Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to ensure program success.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in media, journalism, international development, information technology, or another relevant field is required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, working in media development/support, digital media content production, and/or another related field.
  • Prior experience with organizing and delivering media-related training activities and/or providing capacity-building support to journalists or digital media content producers (either formally or informally).
  • Knowledge of Jordanian ICT context and operating environment; as well as knowledge of current regional and global digital security trends and threats.
  • At least a basic level of familiarity with using web/social media analytics tools (such as Facebook Insights or Google Analytics).

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience in implementing technical activities under a donor-funded program and/or prior knowledge of USAID regulations and requirements is preferred.
  • Certificate-level education and/or professional experience in digital marketing, digital media, web development, and/or domain management.
  • Knowledge of trends and developments related to solutions, science, data, and/or environment journalism.
  • At least a basic level of understanding on the use of AI related to media content creation, and a demonstrated interest to learn more.
  • Familiarity with different social media influencers and/or social media trends in Jordan.

Skills

  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
  • Native-level fluency in Arabic (spoken and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team, and in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, along with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven capacity to build and maintain trust and collaboration with colleagues, partner organizations, and/or other professional contacts over extended periods of time.
  • Appreciation of and ability to work effectively in diverse work environments.
  • Ability and permission to work and reside in Jordan.
