Job Title: Selection & Outreach Associate for the Rhodes Scholarships for Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine (SJLP)
Location: Remote (ideally based within or near to the SJLP region)
Contract: One year fixed-term
Hours: Part time, 4.00 hours per week (FTW:0.11) plus additional hours during the annual selection weekend in November each year.
Salary: Competitive; dependent on location
Reports to: The National Secretary for SJLP and the Head of Selection & Outreach
We have an exciting opportunity for a Selection & Outreach Associate to join the Rhodes Trust, Oxford. This is a part time role, with flexible working arrangements. The post-holder may be asked to travel, especially to attend the annual selection weekend each year (usually held in Jordan).
We are looking for the successful candidate to start with us as soon as possible.

The role
The mission of the Rhodes Trust is to identify and develop remarkable young people in a supportive and nurturing environment. The Rhodes Scholarships for SJLP aim to bring leaders together from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine, and beyond; and to actively support lifelong fellowship and learning.
The role will be responsible for (see Job Description for full details):
Manage the National Secretariat
· To assist the National Secretary of SJLP with implementing the strategic direction of the Rhodes Trust and align all activities of the Trust in a coordinated approach in the SJLP constituency.
· To effectively coordinate the operations and logistics of the National Secretariat (NS) in SJLP, providing support on outreach, administration, and implementation of systems and processes.
Outreach
· Build networks with key staff members at universities and other organisations in the region, that will facilitate the applications of high potential, talented young graduates from diverse backgrounds for Rhodes Scholarships; create and maintain a database of key contacts.
· Together with the team at Rhodes House and the National Secretary (and Deputy Secretary as appropriate), design and implement the annual outreach programme in the constituency; develop and distribute marketing materials for the region; develop an annual social media strategy campaign; and help coordinate and lead information sessions at universities, schools, and with tertiary scholarship programmes nationally.
Selection
- Working with the National Secretary (and Deputy as appropriate):
o annually agree the selection dates and share calendar invites in advance;
o review the Information for Candidates and test the Embark online application form for the constituency;
o review the composition of the selection committee with the National Secretary, ensuring diversity; identify potential committee chairs and selectors;
o ensure alignment of the selection processes implemented by the selection committee in SJLP;
o together with Rhodes House Selection & Outreach team, assist with rolling out tools and training for selectors.
Scholar Affairs
· Assist the Registrar and her team, as required, and the Scholars-elect as they apply for courses and colleges at Oxford University.
· Provide assistance to Scholars-elect with visa applications; process refunds for visa-related, health insurance and language assessment costs; assist with transfers and flight bookings.
Alumni relations
· Build and nurture relationships with Rhodes Scholars (elect, resident and alums) and encourage active involvement in the community and governance structures as office-bearers or as volunteers for specific roles, e.g. selectors/observers at selection sessions, Rhodes Ambassadors, speakers at events, mentoring younger Scholars, presenting at information sessions, assisting with the induction programme for Scholars-elect;
· Organize an annual get-together for alumni, Scholars-in-residence, and Scholars-Elect in Oxford (in-person or virtual).
Other
· Role modelling the Trust’s organisational values of commitment, inclusion, belonging, growth and innovation.
· Carrying out any other duties relevant to the role, as requested.
· A deep commitment to the values, ethos and mission of the Rhodes Trust.
Person Specification (see Job Description for full details):
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
· Experience with the SJLP region, either through educational background or professional experience.
· Substantial experience in education and/or business administration.
· Excellent inter-personal and team-building skills.
