Background

The Jordan Tourism Board Activity (JTBA) is a three-year, $16.2 million program funded by USAID, with the primary goal to strengthen Jordan’s tourism sector through support to the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB). JTBA will enhance JTB’s efforts to strategically position and promote Jordan as a distinctive destination. Further, the JTBA will increase domestic and international tourism to primary and secondary sites, boosting the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and enabling economic growth and job creation across the tourism value chain. The program will achieve its objectives in close coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA) and local and international partners. The project is implemented by SEGURA Consulting with support from international and local subcontractors.

Position Description

The Strategic Communications & Stakeholder Engagement will act as the project’s focal point for internal project communication and external communication with USAID, beneficiaries, partners, and the media. He or she will oversee the development and implementation of communications across various platforms as well as event planning, and training and support to technical teams and other stakeholders to enhance perception of the project activities and the Jordanian tourism sector.

Responsibilities

Draft, coordinate, edit, and/or revise project deliverables and other technical content produced by technical staff to deliver high-quality documents in terms of grammar, spelling, clarity, and formatting

Develop articles, brochures, press kits, videos, social media tools, etc., with an understanding of how these materials affect public perceptions within the context of USAID’s efforts in the region.

Create and implement comprehensive communications outreach plan that utilizes relevant channels for the dissemination of information on project activities and their results.

Lead the writing and disseminating of success stories, feature stories, news releases and selected reports (such as USAID quarterly and annual reports).

Produce dynamic, timely content for use on social media and other principal communication channels

Design events, workshops, and conferences to support project and stakeholder activities, and coordinate event implementation in tandem with other project staff

Identify and work with outside professionals, such as photographers, videographers and other communications professionals, to meet the goals of program.

Develop content supporting project outreach through digital, visual and text platforms

Engage with partners and stakeholders to support their communications efforts as well as contributions to overall project outreach strategy

Cultivate relationships with relevant local and international media and other partners

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of five (5) of work experience supporting communications and/or public relations, including knowledge of and experience with social media tools and strategies.

Prior experience developing and overseeing project communications for USAID or other international donors

Demonstrated experience in developing, refining, and monitoring communications plans;

Strong abilities in training and/or mentoring staff and stakeholders on communications best principles and practices

Ability to deliver high-quality products and create dynamic content on tight deadlines and amidst competing priorities

Visual design experience, including creating or contributing to print and web design products.

Experience with graphic design and editing programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Strong English writing and editing skills and proficiency in Arabic, including the ability to provide high-quality translations.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, political science, international relations, public policy, or a related field strongly preferred.

Knowledge of USAID branding and marking policies strongly preferred

Location

The Strategic Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Lead will work from the JTBA project office in Amman, Jordan.
