Purpose/objective of the position:

Under the direct supervision of the Field Manager and with technical support and collaboration with the Community-Based Protection Technical Referent, the Outreach worker will be responsible for implementing community-based protection activities across projects. This includes close monitoring and follow-up of activities and gathering data and evidence-based information to inform program development and adaptation.

 The position will be crucial in supporting the roll-out of INTERSOS Community-Based Protection Guidelines, guaranteeing adequate support and guidance, reporting on the quality and impact of community-based protection activities, and supervising outreach volunteers, Community-Based Protection Committees (CBPCs), and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) within the communities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinated, supervised, and managed community-based protection activities in coordination with the CBP Technical Referent and Field Manager, and adherence to INTERSOS community-based protection guidelines, ensuring the step-by-step process is implemented according to its principles
  • Supervisor the organization and facilitation of the participatory and community-based protection activities such as community risk mapping, community-led initiative, and CBP action plans;
  • Supervise protection risk analysis and community mapping exercises in the community, with the technical support of the technical CBP Referent, in line with INTERSOS community-based protection guidelines and protection analysis framework to inform the design and implementation of a community-based protection process.
  • Supervise the Asset Mapping exercise implementation in the community to map Community strengths, assets, resources, and allies.
  • Provide supervision, technical guidance, and support to outreach CBP volunteers, local partner CBOs, and CBPCs in planning and implementing participatory community activities and communicating with communities in line with INTERSOS community-based protection guidelines.
  • Participate in developing capacity-building material, as needed and requested by communities, ensuring they are context-appropriate and aligned with community plans.
  • Support in developing awareness material based on local culture and traditions on topics identified through Protection Risk Analysis was done with and by the community.
  • Review data and information collected during the implementation of community-based protection activities and ensure timely development and submission of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and/or as requested.
  • Ensure that community-safe spaces like WGFS /CFS are run per internal and international guidelines, ensuring safety and security and respecting community considerations.
  • Mentor and lead community dialogues, Gender discussions, Protection Awareness, and Engaging with Men and Boys in the community concerning Community culture and context with local partner CBOs, and CBPCs.
  • Support the formation of Community-Based Protection Networks / Committees and work with the CBP Referent to build Capacity for them, CBPNs, and CBPCs.
  • Identify and map existing community groups and CBOs and support the Partnership Manager, CBP referent, Field Manager, and Program Manager in identifying the most suitable partnerships.
  • Ensure good relationships with partner CBOs and be responsible for following up on implementing their capacity-building plans and activities. 
  • Serve as a Focal point for CBOs and Community groups/ Committees on community-led initiatives and ensure the initiatives are delivered following the Protection principles and internal SOPs.
  • Provide regular technical feedback and advice to the Protection Technical Referent, highlighting gaps, challenges, best practices, and lessons learned from community-based protection activities to inform programming.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring of community activities, ensuring the process aligns with agreed community partnerships.

Minimum requirements

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, and/or any field related to Community Development.
  • At least 1 year of relevant working experience implementing humanitarian protection activities.
  • Extensive field experience and an in-depth knowledge of refugees’ context;
