Job Title: Trainer - Training on IYCF for UNRWA Medical Staff FSR# 620

Location: Amman

BACKGROUND

By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SERVICES

  • Develop the training curriculum, PPT presentations, handouts.
  • Develop training methodology.
  • Develop training schedules and activities.
  • Training duration 1 full working days 9 am – 4 pm for each training session for 5 batches. [Training will last a total of 9 days]

Following are the objectives and training topics:

  • Maternal diet and health during lactation
  • Early initiation of breastfeeding
  • Exclusive breastfeeding for first 2 days after birth
  • Exclusive breastfeeding for under six months
  • Mixed milk feeding under 6 months
  • Complementary feeding 6-24 months
  • Categories of food; carbohydrates, fats, proteins
  • Introduction of solids, semisolids or soft food 6-8 months
  • Minimum dietary diversity 6-23 months
  • Minimum acceptable diet
  • Minimum meal frequency 6-23 months
  • Minimum milk feeding for non-breastfed children 6-23 months
  • Unhealthy food consumption for 6-23 months
  • Bottle feeding risks and indications 0-23 months
  • Continued breastfeeding up to 24 months
  • Counseling on child nutrition and essential micronutrient supplementation
  • Mid Upper Arm Screening (MUAC) children/pregnant women
  • Growth monitoring children (6-59 months age)
  • Personal hygiene of mothers and children 0-23 months
  • Five critical moments of hand hygiene
  • Prevention and management of diarrheal diseases at home
  • Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) corner at health facility
  • Prevention and management of ARI
  • Immunization services (children 0-59 months and pregnant women)
  • Prescription of infant milk formula; maternal and infant indications
  • Mother and child friendly space including space for breast feeding at health facility
  • Compile attendance, pre and post training test and training evaluation by the participants.
  • Training certificates.
  • Write training report.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The trainer is an experienced nutritionist specializing in human dietetics and worked in nutrition programs. 
  • The training consultant should have good knowledge on maternal and child health and nutrition and issues regarding maternal, infant and young child feeding (MIYCF) in Jordan context
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in MIYCF integrated into PHC and training of medical staff
  • Experience and familiarity with Jordanian health systems.
  • Excellent communication skill; and proven expertise to facilitate trainings.
  • Good understanding on the program development context of health sector and of institutional           

    arrangements.
  • Excellent command of Arabic and English; written and spoken.
  • Computer skills, proficiency in MS Office application 

DELIVERABLES

  • Training modules and presentations.
  • Participants attendance, pre and post training test and training evaluation by the participants.
  • Training certificates.
  • Training report.
