The Near East Foundation (NEF) is seeking candidates for a Protection Officer to be based in its Jordan office in Amman. For over 100 years, the Near East Foundation (NEF) has worked to build more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities in the Middle East, Caucasus, and Africa through education, governance, and economic development initiatives. Working through a network of country offices and local partners, NEF has operations in ten countries: Armenia, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Mali, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, and Syria. Its programs are organized around three themes: Inclusive Economic Development, Climate-resilient Development, and Stabilization and Peacebuilding.

Background:

The Near East Foundation (NEF) is committed to providing comprehensive protection services that address the needs of vulnerable populations. The Protection Officer will play a key role in ensuring effective management of referrals, access to services, and the successful implementation of Group Problem Management Plus (G-PM+) in Jordan. This role is essential for strengthening NEF's protection assistance initiatives and enhancing the overall well-being of individuals and communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Protection Assistance and Referrals Management:
    • Manage the entire referral process for protection cases, ensuring timely and appropriate referrals to specialized services.
    • Coordinate with local and international NGOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate access to protection services.
    • Maintain an up-to-date database of referral cases, tracking the progress and outcomes of each case.
    • Ensure confidentiality and ethical management of sensitive information related to protection cases.
  2. Access to Services:
  • Conduct assessments to identify protection needs and gaps in services within targeted communities.
  • Provide information and guidance to beneficiaries on available protection services, including legal aid, healthcare, and psychosocial support.
  • Collaborate with service providers to improve access to services for vulnerable groups, including women, children, and persons with disabilities.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of G-PM+ sessions, working closely with facilitators and participants.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to G-PM+ facilitators to ensure high-quality and culturally appropriate interventions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of G-PM+ sessions, collecting feedback from participants and facilitators to inform improvements.
  • Contribute to the adaptation of G-PM+ materials and methods to fit the specific needs of different groups.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff and partners on protection principles, referral pathways, and G-PM+ methodology.
  • Support the development of training materials and resources to enhance the skills and knowledge of NEF staff and partners in protection and psychosocial support.
  • Prepare regular reports on protection activities, including referrals and G-PM+ implementation.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories to share with NEF management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and stored securely in compliance with NEF's data protection policies.
  • Represent NEF in protection coordination meetings, working groups, and other relevant forums.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and other key actors in the protection sector.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of vulnerable populations in NEF's areas of operation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, International Development, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in protection, social work, or a related field, with a focus on referrals management and access to services. Experience in G-PM+ or similar psychosocial interventions is highly desirable but not a prerequisite for hiring.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of protection principles and referral pathways.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and in challenging environments.
    • Proficiency in data management and reporting.
    • Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken.
  • Competencies:
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian principles and protection of vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
