Functional Responsibilities
•To review and approve the steel structural package of the design for infrastructure projects;
•To review and approve the master plan, structures and facilities, including relevant structural calculations, models, charts and graphs, in compliance to the agreed infrastructure plans;
•To review and approve the construction drawings and design specifications including use of computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes;
•To review and approve configurations of the basic steel structural components of warehouses and civil structures;
•To review the loads, pressures, stresses and strains for each component considering the strength of various materials, for structural designs, BoQ, and others as relevant;
•To monitor and inspect off-site and on-site work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and UNOPS standards;
•To liaise and coordinate with other designers, including infrastructure networks during the preparation of designs that fit with the UNOPS standard concepts of construction;
•To review prepared design packages and to ensure that they are in line with the UNOPS “Design Planning Manual for Buildings”;
•In agreement with the Project Manager and the Regional Infrastructure Advisor; to support with the submission of the prepared design packages to UNOPS HQ for internal review and approval; also support with the design review process and with addressing the comments received by the Peer Reviewers;
•To provide a high level of technical supervision during implementation, including inspection for material, quality, Health and safety ..etc. ;
•To assume technical responsibility for the preparation of technical assessments, quality plans, scheme programmes and design work, cost estimates, bills of quantities and review of bid documentations; as well as supervision during construction;
•To provide required technical advice, input and documentation for internal, organizational, partners and stakeholders’ reports;
•To assist the Project Managers in the planning, organization and monitoring of site investigations, surveys, structural site inspections and assessments, and preparation of assessment for associated reports;
Skills
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education:
•Advanced university Degree (Master or equivalent), preferably in Civil, Structural or Infrastructural Engineering
•A First level university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in relevant discipline combined with 2 additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree
•A professional registration license (Professional Civil/Structural Engineer) is required.
Certification:
Professional License Registration as a civil or structural engineer is required.
Experience:
•A minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing structural engineer in design is required
•Good command and skills in AutoCAD are considered as asset
•Knowledge of Structural Design Softwares is an asset
•Strong computer skills and advanced working knowledge of google forms are considered an asset
•Project Management knowledge & skills are an asset
•Experience working in Engineering and/or Construction Management is an added advantag.
Language Requirements:
•Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
