Position: Safeguarding and Investigations Coordinator (Jordanian National)

Location: Amman, Jordan, with frequent travel to field locations

Duration: From July 2024, one-year contract with the possibility of renewal

Reports to: Country Director

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Safeguarding and Investigations Coordinator will lead the integration of Relief International's safeguarding strategy into the country program, with a focus on prevention and investigation/response activities, while also handling HR-related investigations. This position is crucial in protecting RI staff, vulnerable adults, and children from sexual exploitation, harm, and abuse.

The Coordinator will complete annual risk assessments mapping internal and external safeguarding risks in their country, including legislation, support services for survivors, and more.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Receive, report and investigate safeguarding incidents and concerns, assessing the information to determine immediate assistance required; ensure confidentiality and safe storage of information related to safeguarding.
  • Map and establish relationships with local support services and agencies to facilitate the referral of incidents.
  • Develop and implement a Country Safeguarding Strategy, with identification of clear benchmarks and timelines; keep the Country Director and SMT informed on progress against the Strategy and take appropriate actions as necessary.
  • Develop and implement and action plan to ensure awareness about safeguarding at community and facility level, and ensure that staff and partners understand their roles in protecting service users.
  • Facilitate safeguarding training and ensure that new staff are inducted with safeguarding policies.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field safeguarding focal point, to ensure the design and implementation of prevention and response safeguarding activities;
  • Lead the implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures across country operations, including annual risk profiling and safeguarding audits.
  • Analyze safeguarding incident management data to identify patterns and report findings to senior management.
  • Ensure all recruitment processes follow the safe recruitment standards including JDs updates of Safeguarding specific responsibilities, SG policies and code of conduct fully shared and signed
  • Conduct face-to-face and remote trainings on safeguarding. Uphold and promote RI’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding and safety of the vulnerable communities we serve.
  • Ensure that robust safeguarding measures are in place during recruitment processes, including background checks, references, and proper screening of candidates.
  • Verify that all new hires have undergone the necessary safeguarding and compliance checks before starting their employment consistent with RI’s safeguarding and protection policies
  • Support both the incident management team (IMT) and HR with investigations when support is needed
  • Any other task assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • A master’s degree or equivalent experience in a field related to humanitarian assistance, international development, HR, law, political science, development studies, gender studies, social work, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and guidance on safeguarding, child and adult protection.
  • 4-6 years’ experience in safeguarding or protection program design and implementation in fragile contexts.
  • Proven experience in managing sensitive safeguarding matters in a confidential manner.
  • Experience in developing resource materials, including guidance, tools, and best practices on safeguarding.
  • Experience in providing training to staff on safeguarding.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of gender and diversity issues.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Arabic and English.
  • A team builder with excellent people skills, culturally sensitive, with the ability to work with a multicultural team.
