Adherence with acted’s greening policy:

Adherence with acted’s pseah policy:

(Agricultural Engineer) has the responsibility to adhere to the PSEAH Policy (Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment). The (Agricultural Engineer) has the obligation to complete all mandatory trainings related to the Code of Conduct and the PSEA policy and report any safeguarding concern such as breaches of organisational policies or codes of conduct according to ACTED’s procedures. The (Agricultural Specialist) carries out work duties in a way that does not harm children, vulnerable adults or other staff or volunteers.

JOB PURPOSE

1- The Agricultural Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance to ACTED and designated farms/farmers and beneficiaries in Azraq.

2- The Agricultural Engineer will work closely MoA, NARC, Azraq municipality, Azraq Farmers and all project relevant stakeholders.

Objectives

  • Agricultural Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance to ACTED and designated farms/farmers and beneficiaries in Azraq, through:
  • Facilitate participation of farmers and agricultural cooperatives during WWTP construction.
  • Build farmers capacities to develop and launch reclaimed water usage.

3- Develop risk-sensitive business plans that outline selected farmers plan to use reclaimed water  for irrigation.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Agriculture Promotion and Technical Support

  • Promote new agriculture techniques through the provision of agriculture training, agricultural inputs, and market connections with local farmers, specially related and connected to treated wastewater.
  • Promote sustainable agriculture methods and practices among the project’s local community.
  • Provide technical assistance to all farms and beneficiaries on agriculture techniques.
  • Conduct regular visits to farms and micro-business agricultural sites within Azraq or other sites to provide coaching and technical support.
  • Support the development of the technical knowledge of the ACTED team.
  • Provide technical feedback/input on reports provided by external consultants.

2. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Contribute to reports on lessons learned from implemented activities.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of the timely completion and quality of activities with the Project Coordinator and ACTED Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
  • Participate in regular program meetings and ad-hoc meetings, both internal and external.

3. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Act as a communication channel between beneficiaries and the ACTED project team.
  • Foster positive relationships with cooperatives and farmers through regular visits to offices and field sites.
  • Maintain positive, transparent and respectful relationships with acted staff, partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders in the community.

4. Project Development

  • Contribute to the development of new project proposals in the WASH/livelihood sectors, as directed by the Project Coordinator.
  • Contribute to identifying project risks and propose actions/solutions to mitigate them.

5. Security and Compliance

  • Be familiar with ACTED security and evacuation plans and relevant policies.
  • Contribute to security management, ensure field communication, and ensure adherence to security rules.
  • Report incidents to security focal points and coordination.







Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture engineer, with significant course components in either community development, social work, women empowerment and/or communications
  • Good knowledge in new agriculture techniques and adapting them.
  • Good Knowledge and experience of Jordanian civil society at large and farmers in (Azraq) is an advantage.
  • 5- 7 years’ experience in agri-business development activities preferably with an international organization, including business plans development for farms.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in using treated water in the allowable crops in Jordan
  • Proven Experience in dealing with agricultural cooperatives/farms.
  • Experience in delivering training to Agriculture labourers and farmers.
  • Extensive knowledge in climate-smart agriculture techniques in micro and small level
  • Desirable experience in working in host community setting, cooperatives, Community Based Organisation (CBO) engagement, outreach and capacity building
  • Proven capacity of using MS Excel, MS Word, power point and MS Outlook
  • Fluent Arabic (compulsory) and English language (desirable)
  • On-field training skills
  • Familiarity with the culture of the affected population; understanding of how to gain respect from a wide range of people; strong ability to communicate effectively
  • Positive attitude toward project beneficiaries
  • Gender sensitivity
  • Strong organizational skills, including assessing priorities, strategic planning, meeting deadlines and attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to work flexibly and on tight deadlines, handle multitasking and priorities more important tasks
  • Good negotiating and communication skills in a fast-paced, multicultural and challenging environment
  • Experience in Working on Azraq district is a great advantage.
