About the role:

The Security and Access Manager will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining MAG's emerging mine action response in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. This position will ensure safe access to areas affected by explosive hazards and ensure implementation of MAG’s security management framework. The ideal candidate will manage security, access, and logistics to support MAG's mission in OPT, delivering top-tier safety, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement.

This position is initially being offered as 6 month post based in Amman, Jordan, with a longer term view of the post being extended (subject to funding) and based in the Occupied Palestinian Territories once conditions are suitable.

About you

  • You should be an experienced security professional with at least six years in security management, including three in high-risk environments, skilled in incident management, risk assessment, and security training.
  • You should have strong analytical abilities in political and conflict contexts, bring a practical and adaptable approach to working in challenging, remote locations.  
  • You should be proficient in crisis management, humanitarian security principles, and field communications, they possess strong interpersonal skills, resilience under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to MAG’s mission.
  • English fluency is essential, with Arabic or Hebrew skills a plus, and familiarity with tools like PowerBi and ArcGIS is advantageous.
  • This role suits a self-motivated, culturally aware leader ready to uphold MAG’s values while fostering secure operations in complex settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Maintain Safe Access: Design and implement strategies to secure safe, sustainable access for MAG teams in areas affected by explosive hazards. Ensure effective community engagement and establish strong working relationships with local authorities to facilitate smooth access.
  • Security Management: Lead the establishment and management of MAG’s security framework within OPT. Collaborate closely with the Head of Mission, Senior Management Team, Regional Security Manager, and Regional Director to maintain a high standard of security operations. Ensure compliance with MAG’s Global Security Policy and Standard Operating Procedures, promoting duty of care for all personnel.
  • Crisis Preparedness and Response: Conduct regular security risk assessments and develop context-specific mitigation strategies. Prepare teams for critical incidents and crisis scenarios by conducting training sessions and simulations. Serve as the primary point of contact for security-related issues and manage the response to security incidents swiftly and effectively.
  • Field Security Assessments and Audits: Regularly visit field locations to conduct thorough security assessments, audits, and training sessions. Evaluate and ensure that security measures align with MAG’s policies and provide ongoing support and guidance to field teams to maintain safety standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and sustain strong communication channels and relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, government entities, humanitarian mine action actors, and aid agencies. Represent MAG in formal security information networks and maintain informal networks to enhance contextual awareness.
  • Logistics and Procurement Oversight: Develop and oversee logistics, procurement, and supply chain management in alignment with MAG’s internal policies, adapting processes to local constraints. Ensure procurement transparency and compliance, coordinate with the global procurement team, and manage the safe transport of goods and personnel.
  • Asset Management and Physical Security: Lead asset management efforts, ensuring assets are tracked, maintained, and stored securely. Oversee the implementation and upkeep of physical and technical security measures at all program sites to safeguard MAG’s resources.
  • Information Management and Security Analysis: Gather and analyse security-related information from multiple sources, providing weekly intelligence reports to support operational planning. Use mapping tools and data visualization to deliver security updates and guide the program’s strategic decisions.
  • Security and Safety Training: Develop and conduct security briefings, inductions, and crisis management training sessions for all staff and visitors. Ensure personnel are well-prepared for field conditions and are informed of potential security risks and emergency protocols.
