Finance Officer

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Finance Officer for the “USAID Strengthening Civil Society and Media Systems (Sawt) Activity” will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. The officer will manage records, process payments, support audits, and coordinate with various teams to maintain adherence to funder requirements and organizational policies. As a vital member of the finance team, the Finance Officer will work under the supervision of the Finance Manager to assist in the effective financial management of the project and contribute to its overall success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are listed below; other duties may be assigned.

  • Receive and check incoming invoices from operations and/or other staff to prepare ERP entries regularly and create vendors on ERP, including BI vetting.
  • Prepare payments (remittances) to local consultants and service providers. 
  • Prepare and maintain program accounting and documentation to ensure compliance with funder requirements and Internews’ policies and procedures.
  • Maintain financial records reconciliation of expenditures, balances, statements, and other day-to-day transactions through the Internews ERP system. 
  • Prepare staff cash advances, expense reimbursements, and other staff-related payments, conduct a proper review process to ensure accurate reconciliations of these advances. 
  • Review the procurement documents and ensure alignment with Internews policies.
  • Support in reviewing the Subgrantee's Budgets and financial reports for accuracy and completion and ensure compliance with funder requirements and Internews’ policies and procedures. 
  • Conduct site visits and spot checks to monitor subgrantee financial practices and ensure compliance.
  • Support in the creation and tracking of asset IDs in the ERP system. 
  • Support in preparing the local payroll and social security and tax entries.
  • Communicates and coordinates with program management teams, responding to financial questions and providing mentoring and assistance as needed. 
  • Work closely with supervisor and internal/external audits for document verification. 
  • Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to ensure program success.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or any related field or equivalent lived/professional experience.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs.
  • Previous experience with accounting systems.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office suites, particularly Excel.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with donor funded projects.
  • Experience with Unit 4 Agresso.
  • Working knowledge of OMB Circulars.
  • Experience working with remote teams.

Ability and permission to reside and work in Amman – Jordan without Internews sponsorship.
