Regional HR Advisor: Middle East
ABOUT US:
The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a global humanitarian organization operating in more than 30 countries. We are a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and our mission is to create a world free from the devastating effects of armed violence, focusing on:
- Clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war
- Providing explosive ordnance risk education
- Reducing the impact of armed violence through weapons and ammunition management
In order to support our programmes in the Middle East – including Lebanon, Syria and Iraq – we are seeking an experienced Regional HR Advisor to join our People and Culture Team.
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Regional HR Advisor provides professional HR support across MAG’s Middle East programmes. The role works closely with senior managers, local HR teams and HR focal points to ensure fair, consistent and legally compliant employment frameworks for locally contracted staff, while delivering operational HR services for UK-contracted staff. Acting as a trusted People and Culture partner, the role builds management capability, drives engagement, and supports the development of inclusive, safe and high-performing teams in line with MAG’s strategy, values and duty of care.
Key stakeholders for the role will be in-programme Senior Managers as well as local in-programme HR focal points and teams. Under the guidance of the Programmes HR Manager for the Middle East and East and Southern Africa regions, the role will also work closely with the Middle East Regional Director.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
People and Culture Partnering
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior managers and HR focal points, aligning people practices with MAG’s People and Culture Strategy.
- Coach and support managers to strengthen leadership, performance, and team culture, embedding EDI, wellbeing, and safeguarding.
- Collaborate with regional and UK colleagues to identify workforce trends, anticipate challenges, and co-create people solutions.
- Influence and challenge leaders to ensure fair, compliant, and effective people management across programmes.
Coaching, Mentoring and Developing Local HR Team
- Build in-country HR capacity through coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Conduct programme visits to assess HR capability, compliance, and effectiveness.
- Develop and share tools, guidance, and best practice to support effective people management and policy implementation.
- Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across HR teams in the region.
Operational HR Services for UK-Contracted Staff
- Deliver HR services and advice for UK-contracted staff across the Middle East, supporting managers on all people matters
- Lead induction and onboarding, promoting MAG’s values.
- Provide expert advice and support on employee relations issues.
- Support employee wellbeing, ensuring MAG meets its duty of care to employees.
Supporting HR Frameworks for Locally Contracted Staff
- Support review and improvement of HR frameworks (employment law compliance, contracts, policies, salary scales) to ensure fairness, compliance, and EDI alignment
- Advise and support local HR focal points on employee relations issues.
- Assist in developing HR frameworks for new programme locations to enable rapid mobilisation
- Support programmes to ensure effective change management
ABOUT YOU
Qualifications and Competencies
- Solid experience as a HR generalist and strong understanding of HR fundamentals
- Familiarity with reviewing, interpreting and implementing local labour law
- Experience of supporting others to effectively manage staff
- Experience of coaching or mentoring HR professionals to improve capability.
- The ability to effectively communicate to influence decision making with clarity and credibility
- Ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels, remotely and in-person
- Experience in similar roles, preferably in an international NGO setting.
- Fluent in Arabic and English (essential).
