Job summary

As a System Engineer, you will handle the support infrastructure, operating systems, virtual platforms, and applications. You will also be responsible for the integrity and security of the servers and computer systems by following established security protocols and practices.

Job Responsibilities

• Introducing and integrating new technologies into existing data center environments


• Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.


• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.


• Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.


• Understand and Implement layered controls for the security of the website and perform regular audits.


• Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.


• Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.


• Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.


• Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems. - Research, configure, set up servers and open-source systems and services.


• Configure and manage open-source database systems - Manage and implement HA cluster open source Database solutions.


• Assist development teams with routine desktop and network issues .


• Assist Bayt customers in troubleshooting network and web site access issues.


• Manage open source and commercial VOIP based Phone systems.


• Assist manager in capacity planning


• Procure and setup online accounts and services with direct manager supervision.


• Produce scripts and automate batch jobs to assist development and production environments.


• Document Network and infrastructure design and methodologies


• Understand, learn and research new web technologies and frameworks.


• Understand, learn and implement infrastructure and enterprise management standards.


• Provides the technical lead and/or supervision for system administrators, system programmers, or others.


• Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.


• Provide level 2 and level 3 systems and phone support to local and remote Bayt users.


• Liaise and maintain a good relationship with vendors


• Ensure 24/7 availability of production and development networks and systems.


• Document and manage Hardware and Software Inventory across Bayt offices.

Skills

Qualification

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science


• 1- 3 years of relevant experience 

Required Skills

• Infrastructure as code practices


• DevOps experience


• Experience of securing server and services architecture


• Know-how of Apache and PHP


• Knowledge of database (Postgres mainly) clusters, replication, backup, and caching technology like Redis and Varnish.


• Understanding of Kubernetes (K8) would be a plus
