Communications and Digital Media Associate with UNWomen

Mission and objectives

The position is located within UN Women Jordan Country Office. UN Women is the United Nations entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women, officially established by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution 64/289 in July 2010 and starting its operations on January 1, 2011. It was created by consolidating four previous UN bodies—UNIFEM, INSTRAW, the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues, and the Focal Point for Women—to create a more coordinated and powerful agency for achieving gender equality worldwide.

Context

The UN Women Jordan Country Office supports the Government of Jordan to implement global norms and standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Under its Strategic Note for the period 2023-2027, the UN Women Jordan Country office promotes women’s economic

empowerment, gender responsive governance and women’s political participation in alignment with the government of Jordan Triple Modernization Agenda; works to advance the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda including through the Jordan National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security (JONAP); and implements a resilience and empowerment model for Syrian refugee women and vulnerable Jordanian women in camps and host communities in support of the Jordan Response Plan (JRP).

As part of its work, the Jordan Country Office has a significant amount of advocacy and communications work including several initiatives focusing on social norms change, campaigns and the annual Women Film Festival organized in partnership with the Royal Jordanian Film Commission.

The Communications and Digital Media Associate will work under the direct supervision of the Communications Specialist and the overall guidance of the Country Representative and will support the office to fulfil its advocacy and communications roles in support of UN Women and the UN Women’s Country Representative. S/He will work closely with the UN interagency Communications Group, with other members of the UN Women Jordan Country Office and the UN family in Jordan.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Communications Expert, the UN Volunteer will:


1. Provide substantive support to the planning and design of external communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans

· Provide analysis for elaboration of communication strategies; ensure gender perspective is included;

· Integrate communication, advocacy and outreach strategies into proposals for project/programmes and other initiatives, as necessary;

· Monitor and analyze print and social media and provide analysis to the Jordan Country Office;

· Provide inputs and support to the development and implementation of in-country UN Women/ UN system corporate and local campaigns and special events including the UN Women’s annual Women Film Festival.


2. Provide substantive support to the development and dissemination of communication and advocacy materials in the country, including digital media

· Create visual content for communications and advocacy, including photos, video, audio, infographics, GIFs, etc;

· Design posters, quote cards, even save-the-dates, digital banners, etc;

· Identify storylines for publication and articles and draft stories, press releases and other written content for the Jordan Country Office

· Create content and updates for the UN Women Jordan Country Office’s website and social media

platforms for information on key programmatic initiatives, campaigns, international days and events;

· Promote and disseminate corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives, publications, and campaigns;

· Support the translation/adaption/rewriting of information received, printing and dissemination of publications and audio-visual materials;

· Support the maintenance of a media/visibility/communications/events calendar for the Jordan Country Office;

· Maintain a library/database of reference materials, photos, videos and digital assets;


3. Support the coordination media relations for the Jordan Country Office

· Support the establishment of relevant relationships;

· Maintain list of relevant media in country;

· Support the organization of roundtable discussions, press conferences and briefing session for press, as required;

· Draft talking points.


4. Support the coordination of the Country Office online presence

· Support the coordination of the CO website content and maintenance based on corporate requirements;

· Support the coordination of the CO social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy;

· Support the maintenance of a social media calendar;

· Research, compile and produce reports on web/social media statistics on a regular basis;;

· Upload information to knowledge management system on a regular basis, including news, updates, resources.


5. Provide general administration and operations support to the CO in compliance with UN Women rules, regulations, policies, and strategies:

· Provide administrative support in maintaining day to day activities of the Communications Unit and to the organization of conferences, workshops, events, etc., including the Women Film Festival;

· Coordinate vendors relationships as needed in relations with the design and production of communications material;


6. The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organisation.

Bachelor's degree in the fields of journalism, communications, media studies, political and social sciences, economics, international relations, law, marketing, public and business administration or any other relevant field.

Skills and experience

2 years of proven experience in strategic social media outreach and Good understanding of major digital platforms at national or international level;

· Creative, able to identify out-of-the-box initiatives, be a team player, results oriented, show client orientation, context awareness and ability to shape her/his work as required by the context and local sensitivities

·Excellent photography and videography skills;

·Excellent writing and editing skills;

·Good understanding of major digital platforms and proven experience in strategic social media outreach at national or international level;

· Proven ability to develop and implement effective social media strategies and campaigns;

· Strong editorial judgment;

· Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe InDEsign, Photoshop, Illustrator and other design apps and software;

· Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels;

·Familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

· Experience in the use of the full MS Office package (Outlook, Word, Excell, PowerPoint, etc)

· Demonstrated event planning skills.

· Have affinity with or interest in gender equality and the empowerment of women, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
