Job Purpose:
The MYP Modern Languages Supervisor is responsible for leading, coordinating, and developing the delivery of modern languages across the department. The Supervisor will ensure that students achieve high proficiency levels, teachers are supported and guided effectively, and the curriculum aligns with educational standards and best practices. The supervisor will also promote innovative teaching methods and foster a positive learning environment across all modern language courses.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Supervising and supporting modern language teachers in planning lessons, assessing students, and applying effective teaching methods.
  • Developing, reviewing, and updating the modern languages curriculum to meet academic standards and students’ needs.
  • Monitoring and evaluating teachers’ performance, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinating language proficiency assessments and ensure accurate reporting of student progress.
  • Promoting innovative teaching strategies, digital tools, and cultural awareness in language instruction.
  • Ensuring progression and continuity across year groups and language pathways.
  • Promoting effective use of formative and summative assessment to track students’ progress.
  • Supporting strategies that improve attainment, motivation, and learner confidence.
  • Organizing workshops, training sessions, and activities to enhance language learning for students and staff.
  • Collaborating with other departments to integrate language programs across the curriculum when appropriate.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of trends, resources, and best practices in modern language education.
  • Leading curriculum development and assessment, ensuring that curriculum matches the program guidelines 
  • Leading, managing and coordinating the functions of the department
  • Providing the staff members with useful and beneficial resources such as teaching materials, websites, books, articles, etc.  
  • Guiding the communication channels across the team and the principle 
  • Attending regular meetings with the IB program coordinators at the school, ensuring the continuum of all IB programs.
  • Attending regular meetings with the school leadership team.
  • Meeting frequently with the subject team members
  • Bringing together subject teachers in collaborative teams to develop the program units.
  • Ensuring and leading the regular revision of the written curriculum  
  • Developing and coordinating assessment strategies  
  • Organizing standardization of assessment within the subject group 
  • Monitor implementation of the program curriculum framework 
  • Organizing effective communication and collaboration among the subject team members 
  • keeping staff informed of any new publication relevant to their subject areas  
  • Providing appropriate support and guidance to the teaching staff at the department
  • Orienting and training new teachers  
  • Overseeing the implementation and delivery of the subject units 
  • Ensuring regular monitoring of students' progress in their subjects
  • Supporting teachers in the development of assessment tools
  • Participating in curriculum review and development
  • Contributing in planning for the professional development of staff members based on the needs and performance evaluations’ outcomes and per the professional development & training policy
  • Contributing in recruitment and termination decisions at the department, based on the staff’s performance evaluation
  • Observing classes (teachers)  
  • Evaluating the performance of subject team members per the performance evaluation policy and based on the performance standards
  • Addressing department inventory of equipment needs  
  • Preparing an annual department improvement and staff development plans 
  • Ensuring that school policies are implemented by all subject team members

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages, Linguistics, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus.
  • Previous teaching experience in modern languages.
  • Previous experience in leadership, coordination or mentoring roles.
  • Strong knowledge of modern language teaching methodologies, curriculum design, and assessment strategies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement innovative educational solutions.
  • Familiarity with digital teaching tools and educational technology.
