Licensed Network Psychologist 50% contract

Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic, and maxillo-facial) to war-wounded people providing comprehensive health care, MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery program in Amman is seeking a (1) Licensed Network Psychologist for a Part-Time (50%) contract.

Dimension of post

  • Reconstructive Surgery Hospital with an average of 530 admissions per year, Approximately 900 surgeries annually, 50 surgical beds and 145 rehabilitation beds, 2 OTs for Orthopedic, Maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries; OPD with an average of 800 consultations/month 
  • Physiotherapy; mental health and psychosocial department and a micro laboratory within the hospital

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessing and identifying the patients’ needs prior to their admission at RSH in Jordan, with the objective of reducing risk factors and ensuring better stability before the start of treatment. Provide follow-up care for patients identified by the RSH MHPSS team after their admission to RSH in Jordan, addressing their short and medium-term psychological needs between treatment stages to enhance their overall mental well-being.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

•Provide structured psychological support before admission and after discharge to ensure seamless continuity of care between RSH and patients’ home countries and improve the health outcomes.

•Collect data about the patient’s mental health status prior to the admission and after discharge, allowing a better assessment of the program’s outcomes.

•Reduce the psychological risks and enhance the patient’s stability prior to the admissions at the RSH.

•Implement evidence-based psychological interventions according to MSF guidelines and protocols, ethical standards, and organizational SOPs.

•Provide prioritized patients with psychological care in home countries regarding the psychological sessions, optimizing their adherence to their medication and provide regular follow-up with the patients.

•Act as a key coordination point between RSH MHPSS teams, MLOs, and external partners to support effective case management, referrals, and treatment adherence.

Clinical Care and Patient Support

•Conduct and contribute to the psychological assessment and support of patients across the continuum of care, including pre-admission, admission, and post-discharge phases.

•Identify psychological risks and needs that may impact patients’ access to care, treatment adherence, or overall well-being.

•Provide appropriate psychological interventions and support, in line with MSF protocols, organizational mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) frameworks and ethical standards.

•Support patients and, where relevant, caretakers to enhance psychological stability, coping capacities, and readiness for treatment.

•Ensure continuity and quality of psychological care through effective case management and follow-up, including remote support when appropriate.

 Continuity of Care and Referrals

•Contribute to discharge planning and post-discharge follow-up to ensure continuity of psychological care in patients’ home countries.

•In collaboration with the mental health team in the RSH, coordinate referrals to internal or external mental health services as needed, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

•In coordination with the mental health team in RSH, ensure timely handover and information sharing with mental health teams and/or partners during transitions of care, including re-admissions...

Coordination and Collaboration

•Work in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to integrate psychological perspectives into patient care planning.

•Maintain effective working relationships with mental health focal points, medical teams, and external partners in patients’ home countries.

•Participate actively in multidisciplinary meetings, contributing professional input to support shared decision-making.

Capacity Building and Technical Support

•Contribute to the development, adaptation, and implementation of tools, protocols, and processes related to psychological assessment, follow-up, and remote care.

•Support capacity-strengthening initiatives for internal teams and external partners, in line with identified needs and organizational priorities.

Documentation, Monitoring, and Reporting

•Ensure accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with MSF policies.

•Contributes to the collection, analysis, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data for monitoring, evaluation, and learning purposes.

•Prepare regular activity and technical reports as required.

PROFILE

  • Required, degree or diploma in Psychology
  • Required, holding an MOH license to practice as a psychologist
  • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum practicing as a psychologist
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries
  • Required, Fluent spoken and written Arabic and English required.
  • Essential: computer literacy (word, excel, and internet)
  • Required competencies: Results and Quality Orientation; Teamwork and Cooperation; Behavioral Flexibility; Stress Management

Contract:

  • Part-time - 50% Activity Rate; Position based in Amman
  • Fixed-term national contract, renewable.
