Information Technology Specialist

The GIZ Jordan Office Joint Delivery Unit is seeking to hire an “Information Technology Specialist” based in Jordan- for full-time base employment.

IT and digital tools are used extensively by the GIZ employees to achieve its business objectives. Consequently, professionals working in the IT unit ensure that all relevant IT systems are working as they should and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. This position will be placed in the IT and Digital Team of the Joint Delivery Unit.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • BSc/MSc in IT, Computer Science or any equivalent major
  • At least 5 years’ experience in an IT position or similar experience in IT area
  • Certification for Microsoft Windows Server 2012/2016, Windows 10, and MS Office 2016/365, Azure or equivalent experience
  • Proven knowledge of IT hardware and software used, computer network systems, database software, and network security.  
  • Ideally, knowledge of GIZ systems and specific GIZ software (SAP, WINPACCS, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in a team and work across different organizational units
  • Good presentation, communication, and reporting skills with the ability to present complex technical details in a simple business context 
  • Good time management
  • Outstanding working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g., Office 365)
  • Good knowledge and command of the English is a must
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the overall development of IT systems in GIZ Jordan: Continuously work towards improving the existing IT infrastructure, IT management systems and processes to drive performance, improve security and promote innovation. Support of ongoing initiatives towards audit readiness for ISO27001 and promotion of organizational readiness for S4GIZ (rollout of S4 Hana). Prepare regular reports and analyses, assist with IT project planning, and stay updated on the latest developments in IT within GIZ and the industry.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure IT systems comply with the evolving GIZ standards and policies, maintain documentation, and align with headquarters' IT strategies and guidelines.
  • Maintain and Upgrade IT Infrastructure: Install, upgrade, and maintain IT equipment, including computers, printers, network devices, and servers. Monitor and manage hardware and software for security and performance. Monitor and maintain local area networks (LAN), internet connections, and network security to ensure reliable and secure connectivity.
  • IT Security Management: Implement and monitor IT security measures, including antivirus updates, patch management, and access controls to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • User Support and Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to users, resolve connectivity and technical issues, and ensure a high level of user satisfaction.
  • Data Management and Backup: Perform regular data backups, manage data storage, and ensure data integrity and recovery procedures are in place.
  • Procurement and Inventory Management: Assist in the procurement of IT equipment and licenses, keep an inventory of hardware and software, and evaluate options for upgrades.
  • Coordination: Support the further integration and coordination of the IT Professional team across the GIZ Jordan Portfolio

Where appropriate and reasonable, the position holder is willing to perform tasks outside the scope of the job description.
