The Role:

Seesaw is seeking a technically elite Director of Engineering based in Amman, Jordan, to lead and scale our regional engineering hub. You will be responsible for growing this organization, leveling up its architecture, and continuing to deliver on a roadmap benefiting millions of teachers and students.

This role requires a rare blend of 'in-the-trenches' technical depth and the collaborative DNA required to iterate quickly with global stakeholders. You are the critical bridge between our Jordan-based talent and US-based leadership, ensuring our platforms and products serve millions of customers with excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the primary technical partner to Product, UX, and Sales teams. Translate customer-facing initiatives into technical reality, iterating rapidly to meet the needs of the MENA education market.
• Scaling & Mentorship: Lead, recruit, and retain a top-tier team in Amman; transition the org from a flat structure to a tiered leadership model as we grow from 15 to 30+ headcount.
• Modernization & DevOps Excellence: Lead the strategic evolution of our existing tech stack. You will migrate legacy components toward high-efficiency, modern architectures while ensuring high-confidence, continuous deployments. You will drive AI adoption across the software development lifecycle.
• Technical Stewardship: Provide architectural oversight across PHP, Python, and React environments, ensuring best-in-class code quality, AWS infrastructure reliability, and data-driven insights for internal and external customers.
• Global Integration: Drive seamless collaboration across regions with a Monday – Thursday overlap with the US East Coast, ensuring the Amman team is a critical contributor to Seesaw’s global product roadmap.

Requirements

• Linguistic Fluency: Professional-level fluency in both Arabic and English (written and verbal).
• Modernization Expertise: Proven track record of modernizing legacy codebases and evolving tech stacks in a live production environment.
• Collaboration Mastery: Exceptional ability to work effectively across departments and time zones, with a record of success on cross-functional initiatives.
• Engineering Depth: Significant experience in full-stack development (PHP, Python, React) AWS, and automated testing.
• Growth Leadership: Experience managing teams of 15+ and a clear vision for how to scale an engineering culture to 30+ and beyond.
• Flexible Schedule: Ability to maintain a consistent 4-hour daily overlap (Mon–Thu) with US East Coast business hours.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in EdTech, SaaS, or B2G (Business-to-Government).
• Prior experience shipping AI features and experiences to customers.
• Deep roots in the Amman tech ecosystem and local talent networks.
