Translation and Dissemination Officer (English-Arabic)

Job Purpose


The Translation and Dissemination Officer is responsible for producing high-quality Arabic translations of existing REACH publications and materials in English resulting from our data collection and assessment activities. The successful candidate will also support the overall communication and dissemination work of the mission as it relates to the Arabic (Fusha) language. The role will involve the translation of technical and non-technical materials, communication and research-focused briefs, factsheets, reports, as well as the drafting of communications in Arabic such as emails and notes as requested. Translation from Arabic to English may also be requested.


The Translation and Dissemination Officer will have the opportunity to work across all REACH units and thematic areas, including its humanitarian-focused portfolio, market monitoring, resilience and early recovery. They will also support engagement with local organisations and field staff.


Objectives

  • Enhance understanding, accessibility and effective dissemination of REACH-branded communications and research outputs to Arabic audiences;
  • Contribute to expanding and strengthening REACH’s engagement with key local and regional stakeholders;
  • Promote uptake of our data and findings in strategic and operational decision-making across a wide range of actors in the response, including field partners, NGOs, local NGO Forum etc.
  • Support our objectives for effective localisation, empowerment of grassroots organisations and accountability to affected populations;
  • Consolidate internal communication channels with our field teams.



Duties and Responsibilities:


The Translation and Dissemination Officerwill be responsible for the following tasks:


1. Product development activities

  • Translate briefs, reports, factsheets, situation overviews, and other formal outputs into high-quality Arabic (Fusha) publications, under the supervision of the Communications Officer, and as required, in collaboration with Assessment Officers;
  • Ensure quality management and review of other Arabic-language public-facing reports produced by Assessment Officers, as requested by the Communications Officer;
  • Support the REACH coordination, unit leaders and Assessment Officers with interpretation as per request.


2. Communication and dissemination

  • Draft, advise or validate language for external presentations and other oral or written communications with external stakeholders;
  • Support internal and external dissemination activities;
  • Perform the monitoring and evaluation on dissemination activities, as per request.


3. Harmonization of English/Arabic terminology

  • Set up and maintain an up-to-date REACH Terminology Bank for Arabic across all technical themes;
  • Follow-up on standardization of key reference terminology, including humanitarian coordination terms, facility names, geographic administration names etc.


4. Support to data collection processes

  • Review and produce back-translation of questionnaires during research design and piloting phases, as per request;
  • Review and translate select respondent-provided responses for the purpose of publishing formal datasets, as per request;
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and necessary within the area of responsibility.


5.Confidentiality and Data Protection

The Translation and Dissemination Officer will maintain the strictest confidentiality of data and processes. He/she will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of information and data.



Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Arabic language, Linguistics or another discipline relevant to the scope of the assignment.


Technical requirements:

  • Full working proficiency and excellent writing skills in Arabic (C2 level) and English (at least C1);
  • Minimum 1-year previous experience with translation, copyediting and drafting of high-quality written products in Arabic (Fusha);
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and Power Point.


Desirable technical qualifications:

  • Previous experience minimum 2 years of working in a humanitarian or development context is highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of report production software (i.e. InDesign, Illustrator) is a strong asset;
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted translation software is an asset;
  • Prior knowledge of the regional context desirable.
