The “GIZ Yemen projects in Jordan” is seeking to hire a “Digital Partner” for full-time base employment.

GIZ has been working in Yemen on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1969. In order to deliver flexible support at a time of war and insecurity, GIZ operates in Business Continuity Management mode in Yemen and additionally from Germany and Amman/Jordan.  Yemen is one of the nexus and peace partner countries of the German development cooperation. GIZ implements projects in the fields of water and sanitation, health, education, private sector, and employment, as well as good governance, peace, and local administration. At the same time, we support measures to rehabilitate basic services for and to enhance resilience of the local population, including particularly vulnerable groups such as internally displaced people.​ Our actions and decisions are guided by several core principles, the safety of our national colleagues as well as their well-being belonging to the most important ones.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in information technology or other related fields.
  • Basic knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Basic knowledge of Information Security
  • Skills in training / education, communication and change management.
  • Strong analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to express purposefully and enjoy presenting and moderating.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
  • Good prioritization skills to balance key priorities.
  • Fluent in both, written and verbal, in English and Arabic language
  • Advanced SharePoint and workflow skills.
  • Basic technical understanding and a good feel for trends and developments in the digital sector.
  • Technical knowledge in dealing with OpenText-DMS and IDA / Office 365 as well as organizational knowledge of the organizational structure and the processes on site are an advantage.
  • Fluent in both, written and verbal, in English and Arabic language
  • Team player.

Main Responsibilities

The position holder:

  • Is familiar with the processes that have been digitalised and documented at the office, compile needs for analogue processes that require digitalising and make recommendations on any required organisational adjustments, such as the updating of processes       
  • Provides advice (irrespective of the system used) on the compliant (GIZ’s P+R, legislation) handling of information that is subject to statutory retention requirements, on binding filing structures, storing and archiving and on roles and authorisations (see document management).
  • Provides advice at the interface with service delivery (GIZ partners), in consultation with the relevant sectoral departments at GIZ Head Office, on the use of existing IT tools and the development of special IT tools, for and with the partner.
  • Advises end-users on digital practices, new tools and platforms.
  • Coordinates with HQ about digital practices and communicates them to end-users; provides feedback to HQ about local practices.
  • Coordinates with the Information Security Officer on common areas related to the Information Security Management System (ISMS).
  • Serves as first point of contact relating to basic data protection, as well as the data protection regulations on-site and communicates this comprehensibly to end-users.

Where appropriate and reasonable, the position holder is willing to perform tasks outside the scope of the job description.

Duty station: Amman, Jordan

Emanating from GIZ’s role in enhancing and promoting the efficiency and competency of its political partners and entities and their respective employees, and in view of GIZ’s aim at maintaining and encouraging the stability of employment at its political partners and entities, this position will not be available to any official employee currently working at any of GIZ’s political partners, governmental ministry, department or entity, including any official employees who are on unpaid leave.
