The “GIZ Yemen projects in Jordan” is seeking to hire a “Internal Control Specialist” for full-time base employment.

GIZ has been working in Yemen on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1969. In order to deliver flexible support at a time of war and insecurity, GIZ operates in Business Continuity Management mode in Yemen and additionally from Germany and Amman/Jordan. Yemen is one of the nexus and peace partner countries of the German development cooperation. GIZ implements projects in the fields of water and sanitation, health, education, private sector, and employment, as well as good governance, peace, and local administration. At the same time, we support measures to rehabilitate basic services for and to enhance resilience of the local population, including particularly vulnerable groups such as internally displaced people. Our actions and decisions are guided by several core principles, the safety of our national colleagues as well as their well-being belonging to the most important ones.
Qualifications and specialist knowledge
- University degree in a relevant specialization (accounting and auditing or other relevant field) equivalent to BA or MBA
- At least 4 years' experience in accounting, procurement or audit processes in an international organisation
- Experience in the management of EU-cofinanced activities is an advantage
- In-depth knowledge of accounting and internal control; knowledge of GIZ’s rules and regulations and IC standards is a plus
- Strong analytical, statistical, investigative and problem-solving skills
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications. (e.g., MS Office); knowledge of relevant GIZ software is a plus
- Willingness to travel outside of the duty station
- Confidential handling of data and information
- Fluent Arabic and English, knowledge of German is an asset
- Proactive attitude towards personnel and institutional changes

- Good communication and writing skills
- Willingness to update skills, including digital skills, as required by the tasks to be performed
Main Responsibilities
- Planning and conducting the internal controls in the GIZ Portfolio Yemen
- Taking action on the objections raised in audits, reporting on patterns of low-quality including assessments of the needs for further training and knowledge management improvements
- Developing and conducting training within the own scope of expertise
- Communicating results to the management on a regular basis
- Providing advisory and consultative services on risk management, internal control and process improvements
- Coordinating with compliance and the auditing team at GIZ-HQ, especially in case of special findings
- Collaboration with project managers and their financial managers to discuss IC findings, recommend improvements and track implementation of corrective actions
- Willingness to handle any additional task as assigned by the management, ensuring flexibility in responding to operational demands
Duty station: Amman, Jordan
