Job Purpose:

The Systems Administrator will manage and maintain the school’s core IT infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient operation of key systems. This role is primarily responsible for overseeing Windows Servers, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365, including all essential M365 components, such as user and device management, compliance, and security. Additionally, the Systems Administrator will support a hybrid environment that integrates local Active Directory with cloud services through Microsoft Entra Connect Sync. Familiarity with virtualization technologies like Hyper-V is essential, while knowledge of Linux systems and additional open-source technologies is highly advantageous. This position requires an individual with a robust technical foundation, an aptitude for problem-solving, and a proactive approach to managing an enterprise-grade IT environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage and administer Windows Server environments, including regular maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee Active Directory management, including user accounts, groups, and policies, as well as LDAP and Radius configurations for secure access.
  • Administer Microsoft 365, including user and device management, compliance configurations, auditing, and security across Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Defender, and Entra.
  • Maintain synchronization between local Active Directory and M365 through Microsoft Entra Connect Sync, ensuring seamless integration and up-to-date configurations.
  • Monitor and manage virtualization environments, primarily using Hyper-V, to optimize server resource allocation and maintain high availability.
  • Support basic Linux server administration, particularly on Ubuntu and Debian-based systems, including command-line and GUI operations.
  • Assist with the configuration and maintenance of a SAN server connected to virtual clusters through iSCSI.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot web services hosted on Apache and Nginx, along with databases such as MySQL and MariaDB, ensuring availability and performance.
  • Collaborate on development and deployment of containerized applications using Docker and LXC, as well as web-based services, including WordPress and other PHP-based platforms.
  • Work with the data team to support our enterprise data warehouse on Apache Doris and manage SQL-based databases for data storage and access.
  • Document system configurations, workflows, and troubleshooting procedures, maintaining an up-to-date knowledge base for the IT team.
  • Stay informed about new technologies, software, and security practices, identifying improvements to current systems and configurations.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of Windows Server administration and Active Directory, including group policies, LDAP, and Radius.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 components, including Intune, Defender, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, and Entra.
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms, especially Hyper-V, and their application in a hybrid infrastructure.
  • Basic understanding of Linux systems, particularly Ubuntu and Debian derivatives, with proficiency in both GUI and CLI environments.

 

Skills

  • Proficient in administering and troubleshooting Microsoft 365 applications, user accounts, and device policies.
  • Strong skills in managing AD synchronization between on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Capable of configuring and maintaining web services using Apache and Nginx.
  • Experience with database management, including MySQL, MariaDB, and SQL-based databases, with the ability to optimize queries and troubleshoot issues.
  • Skillful in using container technologies like Docker and LXC for application deployment and management.
