Job Purpose:

The IT Technician will provide essential first-line technical support across the school, ensuring the smooth operation of IT services and infrastructure. This role is responsible for supporting a diverse range of users, including administrative, operations, academic staff, teachers, and students. The IT Technician will work with various technologies, handling tasks from basic troubleshooting to managing audiovisual equipment, laptops, and networking components. This position offers the opportunity to develop a well-rounded skill set in IT support, working within a collaborative team to uphold a high standard of service in a dynamic and prestigious educational environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Act as the first point of contact for IT support, addressing a variety of technical issues across hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Provide first-line support for Microsoft and Apple technologies, including desktops, laptops, Macs, and iPads.
  • Utilize the ticketing system to manage, document, and resolve support requests, ensuring timely follow-up and communication with end-users.
  • Document technical issues and solutions, helping to maintain a knowledge base for recurring issues.
  • Support and maintain A/V infrastructure, including smart boards, projectors, and other smart technologies in classrooms and common areas.
  • Set up, configure, and troubleshoot hardware devices, including printers, multifunctional printers and other peripherals.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting, such as managing switches, access points, and basic physical infrastructure issues.
  • Manage and update IT assets within the asset management system, keeping accurate records of equipment and software.
  • Perform routine maintenance and updates on IT systems to ensure reliability and security.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure consistent support and coverage across the campus.
  • Contribute to training and guidance for users on the effective use of school technology and devices.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Microsoft and Apple technologies, including software and operating systems used in educational settings.
  • Basic understanding of A/V systems, smart technologies, and classroom technology.
  • Knowledge of ticketing systems for tracking and managing user support requests.
  • Awareness of networking basics, including switches, access points, and cabling.
  • Familiarity with school or education technology is a plus but not mandatory.

Skills

  • Effective troubleshooting skills for a wide range of devices and software applications.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple support requests and maintain asset records.
  • Proficiency in using and supporting both Windows and macOS operating systems, as well as iOS devices.
  • Basic understanding of network components and connectivity issues.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to handle hardware, tools, and cables with care.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new IT tools and systems.

Abilities

  • Comfortable performing physical tasks, including moving equipment, working under desks, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and follow through to completion.
