School Librarian

Job Purpose:

The School Librarian is responsible for supporting students’ learning and academic development by managing the school library, providing access to relevant educational resources, and assisting students and teachers with research, information literacy, and reading engagement. The role plays a key part in creating an environment that promotes critical thinking, inquiry, and a love for reading among students.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive library space for all students.
  • Promoting literacy and reading through book clubs, reading challenges, author visits, and library events.
  • Assisting students with finding reliable sources for projects, assignments, and independent study.
  • Teaching students how to locate, evaluate, and use information responsibly.
  • Supporting teachers in integrating research and library resources into classroom activities.
  • Developing and delivering lessons or workshops on information literacy, citation, and research skills.
  • Collaborating with teachers to provide resources that align with lesson plans and learning objectives.
  • Supporting differentiated learning by providing reading materials suitable for varying reading levels.
  • Encouraging independent learning and critical inquiry through guided research projects.
  • Managing library related platforms.
  • Guiding students and teachers in using digital databases, search engines, and educational tools.
  • Maintaining accurate records of library usage.
  • Developing and implementing library policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to whole-school literacy and curriculum planning.
  • Recommending purchases and resource updates based on student needs and curriculum changes.
  • Organizing, maintaining, and cataloging books and digital resources according to school library standards.
  • Managing the circulation of materials (borrowing and returns) for students and staff.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date collection of books and resources that support the school curriculum and encourage reading for pleasure.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Previous working experience in an educational institute.
  • Familiarity with school curriculum and research requirements at different grade levels
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Ability to engage students across age groups and reading abilities.
  • Understanding of research methods suitable for students.
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from both print and digital sources to support student learning and curriculum needs.
