Job Purpose:

To provide students with a stimulating learning environment based upon the IB constructivist/inquiry-based approach whereby students can benefit from a rigorously differentiated curriculum. Teachers also facilitate global citizenship through teaching and help prepare students to become well-rounded citizens.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teachers are expected and required to maintain the highest possible standards in all areas of their work
  • Provide a warm and effective learning environment for students
  • Undertake Well-Being, supervisory and extracurricular responsibilities
  • Participate actively in all agreed extra-curricular activities, programmes and projects which support the School programme and the development of the students
  • Contribute to the academic, well-being and general development of the students as individuals and of the school as a whole
  • Ensure that he/she is familiar with the School’s policies practices, expectations, and curriculum
  • Teach such classes as per the timetable set by the Head of the School
  • Prepare the work for these classes in accordance with the agreed school curriculum and policies
  • Effectively implement the School academic and social curriculum through the work undertaken in and out of class to best meet the needs of the individual learners
  • Regularly monitor each student’s performance and progress against the criteria set in the School curriculum documents
  • Keep appropriate records of each student’s attendance (ISAMS) and progress in accordance with the criteria set of the School
  • Set clear and high expectations for students
  • Maintain classrooms and department areas as warm and inviting learning centres through the use of appropriate displays
  • Undertake such supervisory duties as may be assigned by the Head of School
  • Communicate to parents the performance and progress of their students in accordance with the format approved by the Head of School
  • Participate actively to the well-being of the students
  • Attend such meeting and professional development sessions as may be called by the Head of Department and/or the central administration
  • Continuously undertake personal professional development through reading and attendance at workshops and courses
  • Comply with the School’s Conditions of Service; and Code of Conduct.
  • Undertake such additional responsibilities as may reasonably be required by the Principal and Head of the School within the terms of contract and the conditions of service
  • Prepare students for and to maintain highest level of academic integrity
  • To prepare students fully for external examinations, committing to support classes where needed/requested by administration
  • To embed global citizenship within lesson taught

 

Pastoral / Homeroom Expectations

  • Role model the IB Learner Profile attributes and attitudes and promote positive behaviour
  • Initiate a set of Essential Agreements at the beginning of the year in collaboration with students
  • Collaborate with specialists in order to provide consistent expectations and reinforcement for students
  • Use professional judgment, discretion and good sense when responding to incidents or concerns
  • Attend Grade Level meetings as scheduled by the Grade Leader
  • Help administer CEM testing as administered by the Deputy Head (Pastoral)/Grade Leader
  • Participate in orientation transition meeting for students
  • Monitor the implementation of the Primary School Behavior for Learning for students, and report to Grade Leader as needed
  • Communicate with parents on issues related to their child, children academic and social emotional development.

 

 

Job Requirements:

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Teaching staff should have:
  • A degree in related fields
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in teaching the subject
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent ICT skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Preferably bilingual language acquisition (English & Arabic)

Behavioral Traits:

Arab Heritage:

  • To oversee the promotion of Arab heritage through the PYP Well-Being embedded curriculum
  • To verse the promotion of Arab heritage from the Grade Level activities/assemblies

Life-Long Learning:

  • To oversee that the Well-Being programme promotes life-long lessons/concepts
  • To ensure the Well-Being programme promotes “Essential Agreements” and AL-TARBIYEH

Teamwork:

  • To promote the School in the community
  • To undertake any other duties that may be assigned by the Primary School
  • To ensure that parents of your Grade Level receive clear student expectations, policies, rules, and procedures
  • To ensure the implementation of the communication structure
  • To ensure that all staff and students are aware of what to do in any given emergency in accordance to the ABS  Major Incident Plan

Achievement:

  • To undertake CEM testing for your Grade Level if applicable and oversee dissemination of results
  • To track value-added made by students

Holistic Education:

  • To oversee with the Academic Deputy Head that the curriculum is balanced with co-curricular activities to ensure holistic development of students
