Strong Water Utilities Project (SWU) is seeking talented individuals for upcoming internship opportunities within our team located at the (WAJ) The Water Authority/MWI plays a critical role in managing Jordan's water resources, ensuring sustainable practices and effective governance. GIZ is providing a 3 to 6 months internship opportunity that is remunerated with a stipend and managed through an internship agreement
About the project?
The SWU project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German government. The internship program will engage participants in SWU’s core activities, supporting national efforts to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of Jordan’s water and wastewater sectors.
The program focuses on five main areas: reducing water losses in drinking water supply by streamlining and unifying processes and structures across relevant institutions; adopting energy management practices within the Water Authority and water companies; enhancing wastewater sector performance through improved operation and maintenance, the introduction of Technical Sustainability Management (TSM), and the valorisation of sludge; strengthening women’s groups in the three southern governorates to advocate for improved rural water supply; and building the capacities of WAJ and Water Utilities in planning, managing, and operating desalination facilities through the introduction of KPIs and infrastructure improvements to increase water availability.
Main Responsibilities, one of the following:
- Financial Planning – Assist with budgeting, cost analysis, and financial planning for Activities.
- Economic Assessments – Conduct data analysis for economic studies and feasibility reports.
- Organizational Support – Assist in process optimization and project coordination within WAJ.
- Data Analysis & Reporting – Analyze water resource and wastewater data, prepare reports and presentations.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Assist in stakeholder coordination, meetings, and workshops.
- IT & Data Management – Support data systems and digital efforts.
- Environmental & Hydrology – Contribute to sustainability assessments and hydrological studies.
- Admin Support – administrative support.
- Learning & Development – Participate in training and complete assigned tasks for skill-building.
Who Are We Looking For?
- Recent university graduates (within 24 months of graduation) or Master student in fields such as Water and sanitation, GIS, IT, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, and Public Policy.
- Strong academic credentials and a commitment to excellence.
- Proficient in both written and spoken English and Arabic.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with IT technologies and computer applications (e.g., MS Office).
- Keen to learn new skills and adapt to a public - international work environment.
- A collaborative team player who is enthusiastic about contributing to MWI's mission.
- Willing to travel within the project focus areas.
