Background

ERA TO1 is a 5-year, $54 million program funded by USAID, which aims to support the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to prioritize and implement economic reforms. Through coordination with the GOJ, the Jordanian and international private sector, other donors, and Jordanian civil society, ERA TO 1 will (1) advance economic reforms, (2) strengthen the business enabling environment, (3) increase exports and local, regional, and international investments, and (4) respond to emerging priorities.

Investment component

The USAID/Jordan Economic Reform Activity (ERA) is working to help stimulate growth in the Jordanian economy through assistance to the Government of Jordan and the private sector. This includes support to increase the volume of local, regional, and foreign investments in the country.

Position Description

The Investment Specialist - GCC will support ERA’s objective to enhance investment promotion and facilitation in Jordan, with a goal to advance Jordan as an attractive investment destination. The consultant will assist public sector actors (MOIN and ASEZA) to advance a pipeline of investment opportunities with a focus on investors from selected GCC countries (Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman).

There are two sectors of focus, which are (1) Transport & Logistics, (2) Garments and Textiles. Adjacent/subsectors may also be considered. The list of adjacent sectors should be confirmed by the purchaser before outreach.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist ERA’s investment team in identifying new investment opportunities through meetings, networking, reviewing sectoral analysis, and other channels.
  2. Conduct market analysis for the identified countries to promote Jordan with a solid rationale as to why those countries are potential targeted countries to invest in Jordan.
  3. Develop new criteria or tailor established, proven ones for assessing potential international investor companies, to be confirmed by ERA’s investment team.
  4. Develop a company profile of all potential qualified leads (at least 15 leads per sector) based on the approved core criteria, including a written rationale as to why and how the companies were evaluated based on the core criteria using ERA’s template.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, investment, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in developing investment pitches, and potential lead (company) profiles, communicating with potential leads, and arranging meetings with leads. Experience in the GCC is preferred.
  • Experience in designing and delivering business development and promotion support to public sector entities.
  • Experience working with USAID and other donors is preferred.
  • Experience in writing business reports, memos, and business presentations is strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.

Reporting:

The consultant will report to the Investment Promotion Team Lead.          

Place of Assignment:

This assignment will be completed remotely at the consultant’s home of record.
