BACKGROUND

In the framework of the project “Grow Economy: Promote Sustainable, inclusive and decent economic opportunities for Syrian Refugees and Vulnerable Jordanians in the Agriculture Sector”, ACTED aims to build upon the economic empowerment of Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians in the agricultural sector by supporting climate-adaptive approaches, diversifying income generation, and improving the productivity of agricultural laborers and small farmers. To strengthen local capacities further, ACTED aims to improve employability through tailored training sessions and referral mechanisms. By doing so, ACTED hopes to create improved working conditions and labor rights through advocacy and technical support.


The “Grow Economy: Promote sustainable, inclusive and decent economic opportunities for Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians in the agriculture sector” project brings together a consortium composed of ACTED and other active NGOs, the private sector, and local authority, the consortium is led by ACTED.

 

Under the supervision of the Project manager, the Volunteer will create visual text and imagery concepts, by using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. She/he will develop the overall layout and production design for roll up, brochures, posts, etc. Graphic Designers design (or create) graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as fact sheets, displays, logos, or imagery for print and digital uses including banner ads, social media posts, website graphics, magazine advertorials.


JOB PURPOSE

The volunteer is responsible for the preparation and design of any publications or posters related to the project as well as the collection and analysis of the necessary data in addition to creating visual communications such as adverts, brochures, rollup banners, and fact sheets.


OBJECTIVES

·       Work on a wide range of projects and media, using various software programs to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet project goals

·       Ability to arrange design elements harmoniously, considering visual hierarchy, balance, and effective use of space.

·       Obtain input from managers to ensure that designs meet Acted standards.

·       Update and maintain internal databases for designs, photography, and video.

·       Collaborate and brainstorm with the project team or internal stakeholders on a wide range of materials, including posters, presentations, fact sheets, and marketing materials.

·       Manage the design and uploading process for all project materials, based on best practices for using a content management system.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-         Collecting data on potential individuals' knowledge and skills.

-         Make initial versions of the designs and show them to others.

-         Create illustrations, posters, and other designs using computer programs.

-         Collaborate with writers and the creative leader to finish the design.

-         Change the designs based on feedback.

-         Make sure the final graphics and layouts look good and match the Acted visibility standards.

-         Proficiency in editing and manipulating images, including retouching, cropping, resizing, and optimizing for different mediums.

-         Keep an up-to-date record of major events in the governorate and report on them when necessary

 Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Skills

QUALIFICATIONS

-        bachelor’s degree in Design, Fine Arts, social sciences, , international development, or any related field, with significant course components in either graphic design or communication.

-         Demonstrated experience in graphic design.

-         Familiarity with design software and technologies like Canva, Microsoft Publisher, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop.

-         Knowledge of online design techniques, tools, and principles.

-         Photography experience is added value.

-         Proven experience in using one or more design programs (CANVA, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,,)

-         Desirable experience in working in the humanitarian sector.

-         Proven capacity in using MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook.

-         Fluent Arabic (compulsory) and English language (required).

-         Familiarity with the affected population's culture; understanding how to gain respect from a wide range of people; strong ability to communicate effectively.

-         Positive attitude toward project beneficiaries and project team.

-         Gender sensitivity.

-         Strong organizational skills, including assessing priorities, strategic planning, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail and quality.

-         Ability to work flexibly and on tight deadlines, handle multitasking, and prioritize more important tasks.
