Action Against Hunger (ACF) is a leading humanitarian and development agency working to combat the causes of hunger and malnutrition in over 46 countries worldwide. Eleven years into the Syrian conflict, more than 1.3 million Syrians have sought refuge in Jordan; 676,164 are registered refugees and approximately 80% live in non-camp settings. This influx of refugees has strained Jordan's economy and resources, with Syrians often accepting worse working conditions and lower compensation than Jordanians and taking on low-skill, informal jobs in sectors such as in manufacturing, construction and agriculture. In 2022, Jordan had a 23% unemployment rate. For Syrian refugees, unemployment rates are significantly worse with 80% of Syrian refugees unemployed in 2021, up from 50% and 65% in 2019 and 2020.

ACF is looking for its program in Jordan for 2 males Family Mentors for Irbid and Zarqa

Workplace:   Irbid and Zarqa with frequent field movement in areas of operation and other Action Against Hunger offices in the country / 80% field work

Overview: The Family Mentor is responsible for providing regular household coaching, outreach, follow up and training to targeted households to ensure their social protection, improved life, social and emotional skills, and ongoing commitment and motivation in the project to reach their livelihood goals. Based in Irbid, Mafraq or Zarqa, the Family Mentor will report directly to a Food Security and Livelihoods Officer. As part of their role, the Family Mentor will participate in the beneficiary selection and household assessment process, and develop individual care plans based on the assessed skills, capacities and needs of each household. As part of this role, the Family Mentor will also receive training, technical support and oversight from the Mental Health & PSS Deputy Program Manager. 

Responsibilities:

1) Provide regular capacity building and coaching for beneficiary households

  • Support project beneficiary households in developing their household and livelihoods plans and provide recommendations and guidance where needed
  • Provide regular and ad hoc one-on-one and group coaching visits and support to project beneficiaries in implementing their skill building and livelihood activities
  • Build awareness on key health and social issues, e.g., education and school drop-out, child labour, gender-sensitive practices within the household, safe drinking water, balanced diet, hygienic practices, etc.
  • Provide psychological first aid and safe referral for MHPSS services
  • Support households in the development of social networks
  • Guide participants through challenges, either related to the project or communities and their families.
  • Mentor participants, boost confidence, and encourage positive world views and coping mechanisms.
  • Identify follow-up support needed and connect households to external services through service mapping and referrals where possible.

2) Conduct household assessments and data collection to support beneficiary selection and project monitoring under the guidance and coordination of the FSL Officer.

  • Mapping, outreach and identification of potential beneficiaries within the assigned areas;
  • Conduct household assessments and interviews to assess the skills and suitability of potential beneficiaries to participate in graduation programming
  • Ensure accurate and reliable data collection
  • Responsible for archiving of the beneficiary lists and supporting documents as per Action Against Hunger standards and policies
  • Ensure the collection of attendance sheets, pre-post tests and other monitoring activities for each activity including training, job placements, business grants ect. 
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information at all times.
  • Ensure that the beneficiaries are informed about application / registration procedures, assistance status and any other information needed.

3) Delivery of trainings and implementation of project activities, ensuring they are aligned with Action Against Hunger standard operating procedures

  • Facilitation and the delivery of the project training (Employability Skills, Financial literacy, business skills training, Social-Emotional life skills and Psychoeducation)
  • Oversee the Cash assistance distribution according to ACF SOPs and best practices.
  • Support the identification and selection process of beneficiaries that may require access to the safety net fund.
  • Provide regular business coaching to beneficiaries of business grants.
  • Carry out regular visits to monitor and follow up on the implementation of the project activities as per the defined schedule with the support of the FSL Officer

4) Communicate the organization’s activities and objectives to the partners and Assistance distribution and follow-up:

  • Explain the project’s activities and objectives to the partners and the population.
  • Represent the Organization in meetings with the beneficiaries.
  • Assistance at projects distribution events as planned and requested.
  • Follow-up and monitoring of the projects impact.
  • Report on participants' progress through individual meetings to ensure that they are on track to meet Graduation outcomes. 
  • Coordinate with the broader technical unit in Jordan mission to share best practices and lessons learned.
  • Ensure data confidentiality, ownership of project beneficiaries.
  • Guarantee the confidentiality of individual or group counselling.

5) Fulfil general responsibilities and contribute to broader Action Against Hunger Jordan operational quality and consistency

  • Commit and comply with the organization gender, age and diversity principles & policies (working with people, communication)
  • Support on the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles through daily activities and or through the management of their teams (Managing performance & development)
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information at all times

  • Proven knowledge of computerized systems ( Microsoft office )
  • Capacity to adapt communication based on targeted audience
  • Experience in digital data collection (Kobo) preferable 

Education:

Bachelor university degree within the field of social work, business administration, economics, social studies or any other related qualifications.

Type of professional experience requested:

  • 2 year of previous experience in humanitarian or development programming with INGOs or NGOs.
  • Previous experience in conducting assessments and data collection
  • Previous experience in coaching, training and facilitation with vulnerable local communities and refugee populations.
  • Experience in protection topics (child protection, case management, GBV) desirable
  • Knowledge or experience in Psychosocial Support is preferred.

Language level: Fluent in written and spoken Arabic essential  - Very good English would be a plus
