Job Title: Child Protection Coordinator FSR # 623

Location: Amman Office

JOB SUMMARY 

This position’s primary role is focused on capacity development and providing specialized technical support to contribute to high quality child protection programming. The role is responsible for leading training and supporting child protection staff and/or partner organizations to strengthen capacity for child protection prevention and response.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning

  • Lead the development of project proposals and donor concept notes in child protection and multi-disciplinary grants.
  • Work closely with the program team to achieve program goals.
  • Coordinate with program team/partner agencies, as relevant, to organize training and support capacity building needs.
  • Support recruitment of new staff to strengthen organizational capacity for child protection prevention and response services.

Capacity Building

  • Lead direct trainings and ToTs in child protection topics for staff, partners, volunteers, and focal points.
  • Coordinate with Health, MHPSS and GBV teams for integrated capacity building initiatives.
  • Provide technical supervision, support and mentoring to child protection staff.
  • Provide specialized guidance and advice to child protection staff, utilizing reflective practice to support improved and high-quality child protection services.

Project Management

  • Provide technical advice and support to the IMC child protection program teams.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of ongoing child protection projects.
  • Contribute to regular program reports, on time and with accurate data.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations.

 

Human Resources Management

  • Supervise the child protection staff on a day-to-day basis in order to ensure a proper implementation of activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise the selection and training of qualified program staff, recommend promotions, and implement disciplinary action and termination of staff in consultation with leadership.
  • Maintain open lines of communications with all child protection field staff.
  • Determine the training needs of the child protection staff. Arrange and oversee trainings.
  • Ensure staff performance evaluations and professional development plans are in place.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Seek and analyse community feedback and adapt activities accordingly.
  • Monitor and document prevention and risk mitigation program activities.
  • Contribute to the application and assessment of child protection minimum standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance in relation to best practices within child protection programs.
  • Provide MEAL contributions in the development of concept notes, proposals as well as internal and external reports.

 

Coordination, Advocacy and Representation

  • Coordinate regularly with the child protection leadership and participate, as required, in broader team meetings.
  • Advocate for children's rights and promote awareness of child protection issues within the community.
  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings, as relevant, always promoting child protection principles.
  • Ensure adherence to IMC’s Child Protection Minimum Standards, as well as relevant inter-agency guidelines and standards.

Security and Conduct

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies.
  • Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all child protection staff, volunteers, and partners.
  • Exemplify core principles of child protection programming.
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program and organization, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding and PSEA policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Typically, a Master’s degree in a related field e.g. psychology, social work, education. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Typically, 7+ years of relevant and progressive managerial experience in child protection, ideally in programs focused on resilience building.
  • 5+ experience in managing diverse teams and institutional donor budgets (USAID, BPRM, UN, ECHO, FCDO, EU, GiZ, BMZ, SIDA, CIDA).
  • Demonstrated experience with the development sector and international health organizations.
  • Keen knowledge of and networks with government, NGO and CBO service providers.
  • Progressively demonstrated application of child protection core competencies and commitment to core principles of child protection programming.
  • Strong knowledge of standard child protection technical resources and approaches.
  • Experience in staff capacity building.
  • Training and facilitation experience including experience in the development of training materials.
  • Relevant regional experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with local partners and community mobilization preferred.
  • Profound cross-cultural awareness.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain flexible, and apply experience and guidance to evolving challenges.
  • Excellent command of English with the ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical information in the English language.
  • Good interpersonal and advocacy skills.
