COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA OFFICER

The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a global humanitarian organization operating in more than 35 countries. A co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, our mission is to create a world free from the devastating effects of armed violence. MAG works to:

  • Clear landmines and explosive remnants of war.
  • Provide explosive ordnance risk education.
  • Reduce the impact of armed violence through weapons and ammunition management.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and creative Communications and Media Officer to assist with planning and delivery of a wide range of communications activities including written and digital content for MAG’s social media channels and website, and support media relations, in line with MAG’s values, brand and in alignment with strategic objectives. Based in our regional hub in Amman, this role will support the Middle East programmes, with a particular focus on our Palestine response.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with colleagues in the Middle East programmes and the global communications team, plan and deliver a communications strategy in support of MAG’s organisational objectives and country programme objectives.
  • Help to maintain an editorial calendar for MAG Middle East’s social media and web content and implement changes to MAG’s social and digital work in response.
  • Potentially establish and manage Middle East country-specific social media channels
  • Engage with regional, national and international media, maintaining a media contacts database and assisting in media field visits, to deliver outstanding media coverage that amplifies MAG Middle East countries’ achievements and unique characteristics
  • Project manage the delivery of content from across the Middle East programme and support programme colleagues in the provision of reports and content to support donor relations and reporting.
  • Occasionally work with other UK-based departments such as HR and finance as well as international programmes to meet their content creation needs.
  • Draft written articles, including news stories, press releases, op-eds and blogs, for MAG’s website and for third party platforms

About You

You will bring strong experience in communications, journalism, or media, ideally within the humanitarian or international development sector. You will have:

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience producing high-quality media, photography, and digital content in field contexts.
  • Knowledge of regional media and communications trends across the MENA region.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across cultures and remotely with global teams.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is essential.
