Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic, and maxillo-facial) to war-wounded people providing comprehensive health care, MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

 

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery program in Amman and is seeking recruitment for Microbiology Laboratory Technicians to feed the daily worker pool with.

 

THE JOB:

Has a full-time responsibility to perform the microbiology diagnostic laboratory tests from reception of samples, validation of the samples, their processing, the following of culture growth, communication of intermediate results, identification, antibiogram, to the final results communication to the laboratory supervisor.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • According to medical prescription, prepare and perform clinical exams/tests with appropriate techniques and following MSF protocols and procedures. This function includes, among others:
  • Performing phlebotomy and collecting blood samples safely and accurately.
  • Centrifuge blood samples.
  • Microscopic examination of urine specimens.
  • Perform laboratory exams for bacteriology (serology, hematology, biochemistry, parasitology, according to context of the mission).
  • Ensure proper registration of patients’ samples, as well as registration and reporting of the sample results to keep a written track of activity and give information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality and documentation.
  • Prepare media for culture accurately and in accordance with established SOPs and inoculate microbiology samples and cultured properly with consistent monitoring of each step to guarantee quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Take care, manage and organize efficiently the laboratory material/equipment:
  • Apply hygiene and safety protocols, doing daily cleaning /maintenance, ensure sterilization, and wash general glassware after procedures are done.
  • Ensuring proper sample waste disposal according to MSF protocols and highest safety standards.
  • Supply orders, do stock, storage conditions follow-up, keep inventory.
  • Keep organized the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis done.
  • Report all relevant information linked to the activity in the laboratory to the line manager, especially the loss/robbery/damage of laboratory equipment or medicines.
  • Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device. List item.

 

 

PROFILE

  • Essential: BSc in Medical Analysis or Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Essential: MOH license as Laboratory Technician
  • Essential: at least 2 years of working experience
  • Desirable: experience in the bacteriology section is preferred.
  • Essential: Fluency in both Arabic and English languages
  • Essential: computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
  • Respect MSF Policies/ and work time.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, organization and time management skills.
  • English language communications.

 

 

WORK LOCATION:           Al Mowasah Hospital in Marka, Amman.

CONTRACT:                       As the position is requested for temporary support only, no contract will be signed, and payment will be based on the number of days performed at an hourly rate.

Probable start date:       Request will be upon need.
