Islamic Relief Jordan is a country branch of Islamic Relief Worldwide. Islamic Relief Worldwide is an internationally recognized charity, looking back on nearly 40 years of experience in humanitarian and developmental aid. It was founded in 1984 in Birmingham, UK, in response to the devastating famine in the Horn of Africa. Since then, Islamic Relief has grown into a charity that is active worldwide, putting development projects, emergency aid, and rebuilding projects into action in over 28 countries around the world.
Islamic Relief Jordan (IRJ) began its operations in 1997 with orphan’s sponsorship, sponsoring hundreds of orphans living in Jordan. IRJ extended its programs to seasonal projects with Ramadan and Qurbani distributions and In-Kind donations. IRJ has established strong partnership with international non-governmental organization and local one’s strengthening the overall response to the Syria crisis. At the onset of Syria humanitarian crisis in late 2011, IRJ provided emergency response to those affected by violence in Syria and has since then scaled up its capacity and operations with number of 70 staff across the country.

The team will be offered transportation from 2 locations: Amman and Zarqaa.
Islamic Relief Jordan country office is seeking to hire the following position:
The triage nurse is the primary contact for patients arriving at the clinic or health center. They conduct quick assessments of patients’ conditions to determine the level of urgency and guide patients to the appropriate care. In addition to providing initial nursing care, they help stabilize patients when necessary and coordinate with the medical team for follow-up, referrals, or further treatment. This role is essential for maintaining a safe and efficient patient flow, prioritizing care based on the severity of conditions, and ensuring that quality and ethical standards are upheld.
Major Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment and Triage
- Conduct rapid assessment of patients upon arrival.
- Interview patients (or caretakers) to record chief complaints, symptoms, medical history.
- Measure vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration) and other basic parameters (e.g., height/weight if needed).
- Classify patients according to urgency/priority (emergency, urgent, non-urgent) using recognized triage systems such as Emergency Severity Index (ESI) and decide the appropriate level of care (immediate emergency care, regular clinic visit, referral, follow‑up).
- Reassess patients waiting if there is a delay — monitor for deterioration and escalate if needed.
- Direct patients to the appropriate healthcare provider.
- Coordinate with doctors, treatment nurses, and other medical staff for urgent cases.
- Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, universal precautions, safe disposal of sharps and medical waste, sterilization procedures, and biohazard safety — crucial in a camp/field context
- Record‑keeping, Data & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date medical records (paper or EMR), patient registers, treatment logs, wound‑care logs, referral records, follow-up logs.
- Document patient priority, symptoms, and initial assessment findings.
- Report on patient load, services provided, treatments administered, referrals, stock usage, incidents, and other required health indicators.
- Assist in compiling regular health‑team reports (weekly/monthly/quarterly) for program monitoring and evaluation.
- Uphold confidentiality, informed consent, dignity and rights of all patients.
- Team Cooperation & Coordination
- Work closely with physicians, pharmacists, other nurses, protection/psychosocial staff, referral partners, and external health facilities as needed.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, case reviews, coordination with partners, health‑promotion initiatives, and outreach planning.
- Where required, support or mentor community health staff or volunteers
- Be available to support emergency response, outbreaks, urgent referrals, off‑hours or shift work, and mobile/outreach clinics if needed.
- Participate in community‑level disease surveillance, rapid response and public‑health interventions as needed.
- Perform any other relevant duties assigned by management in line with the health program needs, outreach, or response activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered Nurse with valid license.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Minimum ONE year of experience in clinical care (hospital, primary care, wound care, IV therapy, or similar) OR previous experience in a humanitarian / camp / PHC setting.
- Preferred experience in working in Syrian refugee camp, Azraq or Zaatari
- Strong competence in nursing procedures: medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, vital signs monitoring, patient assessment.
- Experience working in refugee camps, or humanitarian contexts.
- Experience or training in triage, emergency care, communicable disease surveillance, outbreak response.
- Experience or willingness to engage in community health/outreach, health education, preventive care.
Humanitarian & Protection Standards Awareness
- Good knowledge of current humanitarian policy issues and awareness of the broader international humanitarian context.
- Understanding of gender sensitivity, protection, inclusion, and the social cultural context relevant to Jordan / camp settings; ability to apply these in patient care and community interactions.
- Familiarity with recognized humanitarian standards and codes of conduct — including ICRC Fundamental Principles, Sphere Standards (for health, WASH, protection), and Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) and commitment to uphold them
- Capacity to identify protection risks (e.g. gender-based vulnerabilities, inclusion issues) and manage such risks appropriately: ensure safe, respectful care and make referrals or report cases per safeguarding policy.

- High-level communication skills, both oral and written, enabling interaction with employees at all levels within the organization as well as with external contacts
