We are seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to join our growing structural engineering practice. The role is primarily focused on the design and documentation of domestic residential timber-framed dwellings, with exposure to concrete and steel structures.
You will work closely with the founder to deliver practical, buildable structural designs in accordance with Australian Standards and local authority requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to develop strong fundamentals in residential structural design while working remotely in a professional, well-supported environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Structural design of residential projects, including:
Concrete footings and slabs
Block and sleeper retaining walls
Timber and steel framing
Columns and load-bearing walls
- Preparation of structural drawings using Revit and AutoCAD
- Assist with engineering calculations and design checks
- Coordination with architects, drafters, and builders
- Reviewing architectural drawings and identifying structural implications
- Assisting with design revisions and responding to RFIs
- Ensuring designs comply with Australian Standards, NCC, and council requirements
Skills
- Mandatory proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, with the ability to prepare clear, accurate structural drawings and details
- Experience with structural analysis software, such as ETABS
- Exposure to concrete design software, including RAPT
- Experience with structural analysis and design packages such as SpaceGass or Microstran (preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to use formulas, basic macros, and engineering spreadsheets for design checks and calculations
- Working knowledge of Australian Standards relevant to structural engineering (e.g. AS 1684, AS 3600, AS 4100)
- Familiarity with the National Construction Code (NCC) and its application to residential buildings
- Strong understanding of structural behaviour, load paths, and basic engineering principles
- Ability to learn new software and design tools quickly
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to engineering work
