Workplace: Amman-Jordan with travels to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) operations and offices in the MENA region and HQs.

Reports to (Hierarchical): Intersectional Head of Office in Amman.

Reports to (Functional): Head of OSCAR (Advocacy, Operations and Communication) in Amsterdam.

Duration: One Year Contract.

Background:

The Amman Regional Communications Hub (ARCH) was established in 2017 to strengthen MSF’s capacity to advance its institutional and operational priorities through regional media and digital communications, while enhancing the organization’s visibility, identity, and public profile across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The ARCH is part of MSF’s regional communications network, working closely with offices in Lebanon and the UAE, as well as communications teams across the region and globally. Based within the Amman Intersectional Support Office, which hosts more than 100 staff from three Operational Centers (OCA, OCBA, OCG), ARCH plays a key role in supporting collaboration and alignment across MSF entities.

The Amman Hub is transitioning towards a new model, increasing mutualization among OCs aiming at higher coherence and efficiency. Although it offers services for all OC, currently, the ARCH is directly managed by OCA. In the following months, the unit will be handed over to the new Amman Intersectional Support Office, and therefore report to the new Intersectional Head of Office.

Main Purpose:

The Head of Communications leads the Amman Regional Communications Hub (ARCH), providing strategic direction for MSF communications across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The role is responsible for strengthening MSF’s visibility, reputation, acceptance, and public engagement among Arabic-speaking audiences, while supporting advocacy priorities and fostering collaboration across MSF operational centers and communications platforms.

As MSF in Amman progresses towards a more unified organizational model, the Head of Communications leads the ongoing development of ARCH, strengthens coordination across the movement, and contributes as a member of the management team to shaping the strategic direction of MSF’s intersectional support and communications activities in and from the MENA region.

Furthermore, as a member of the regional leadership structure, the Head of Communications contributes to the development of a unified and coherent communications approach in Amman and across the MENA region.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership

• Lead the strategic direction, development, and performance of ARCH.
• Develop and oversee regional communications strategies aligned with MSF institutional and operational priorities.
• Provide senior-level advice on media engagement, advocacy opportunities, public positioning, and reputation management.
• Support the transition towards a unified MSF entity in Amman through coherent and collaborative communications approaches.

1. Communications and Public Engagement

• Strengthening MSF’s visibility and influence through media relations, digital communications, and public engagement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to amplify MSF’s voice on humanitarian issues affecting populations in the region.
• Ensure communications activities support advocacy objectives and organizational priorities.
• Act as spokesperson for MSF when appropriate.

1. Regional Coordination and Representation

• Coordinate with MSF communications teams, hubs, and offices across the MENA region and globally.
• Facilitate alignment among operational centers and stakeholders on communications priorities and initiatives.
• Represent ARCH in regional and international communications platforms and forums.

Profile Requirements:

Education:

• Master’s degree in Communications, Media, Public Affairs, Advocacy, or related fields.

Experience:

• At least 5 years in relevant and similar jobs, demonstrated experience leading communications strategies in complex international environments.
• Previous experience with MSF or other INGO’s in developing countries is desirable.

Languages:

• Essential: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
• Proficiency in French is considered an advantage.

Additional Information:

• This position is open to both Jordanian and non-Jordanian applicants.

Compensation & Benefit:

•  Relocation package will be applicable for non-Jordanian staff.
