    MEDICAL LIAISON OFFICER

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.

Since 2006, Médecins Sans Frontières has run a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic, and maxillo-facial) to war-wounded patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts), providing comprehensive healthcare and rehabilitation during their stay in Amman, then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

 

We are currently recruiting for one (1) Medical Liaison Officer (MLO).

 

THE JOB

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patient’s health condition.

 

Dimension of the project

  • Reconstructive Surgery Hospital (RSH) with an average of 550 admissions per year,
  • Over 1000 surgeries annually, 
  • 72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds,
  • 2 OTs for orthopaedic, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries,
  • OPD within average of 550 consultations / month 
  • Physiotherapy, 3D and Psychosocial departments, and a micro laboratory within the hospital with an Antibiotic Stewardship Program

 

Scope of responsibilities

  • Patients’ identification, referral and follow-up:
    1. Identify and screen patients who can be admitted to MSF Amman Reconstructive Surgery Hospital (Al Mowasah Hospital)
    2. Be the focal point for referrals and consultations for patients in assessment process at OPD at the RSH
    3. Follow-up the patients after discharge according to the surgical plan and patients’ admission manager instructions
    4. Prepare and submit patients’ medical files to Deputy Admission Coordinator for Validation Committee presentation
    5. Ensure the list of cases to be admitted after monthly request numbers from Deputy Admission Coordinator
    6. Organize Patients + family caretakers referral processes after scheduling
    7. Brief the patients (main rules of the hospital, code of conduct etc…)
    8. Carry Medical fitness screening for the family caretakers
  • Networking and program representation activities:
    1. Extension of the network (NGOs, hospitals, care delivers, field workers) in order to assess Syrian community needs in the field of reconstructive surgery and ensure a better access to patients
    2. Liaison with other agencies’ staff in the field (especially refugees’ camps) in order to integrate MSF activities in the implemented referral systems
    3. Communication in Jordan related to RSP criteria and frames of follow-up
  • Additional activities:
    1. Attend to the validation committee if/when needed
    2. May replace the Admission Director (mainly at validation committee) if/when needed

 

THE JOB PROFILE:

  • Recognized medical doctor diploma/degree by the Jordanian Medical Council.
  • At least 2 years minimum working experience as Medical Doctor in clinical work.
  • Experience in a surgical ward for orthopedic, plastic and/or maxillofacial surgeries would be an asset.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Arabic are mandatory.
  • Flexibility to travel between governorates in Jordan.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office.
  • Team Worker and a good level of communication.
  • Autonomy and development skills.
  • Respect of confidentiality.
  • Diplomacy, good communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

 

WORK LOCATION:           Al Mowasah – Reconstructive Surgery Hospital in Marka, Amman

CONTRACT:                      6-month fixed term contract – Full Time, renewable

Probable start date:         Mid-August 2022
