Position Overview :

The Amman Baccalaureate School is seeking a skilled and dedicated Laboratory Technician to support the Science Faculty within the IB Diploma College. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining efficient laboratory operations across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. A key aspect of this position involves the careful preparation and setup of equipment for Grade 12 students completing their externally assessed Internal Assessments (IAs), working collaboratively with teachers while ensuring that all practical work is conducted safely and to the highest standards.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:  Job Title: IB Diploma Laboratory Technician

  • Ensure the smooth daily operation of IB science laboratories, including the organization, storage, and labelling of all equipment, chemicals, and materials.
  • Set up and prepare sophisticated experimental apparatus for lessons and for student IA investigations in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to provide technical support, while maintaining the clear distinction that teachers are responsible for guiding students’ conceptual understanding and scientific methodology.
  • Apply strong problem-solving abilities to design or adapt apparatus when required, supporting students’ research needs and enabling innovative investigations.
  • Maintain laboratory inventories, conduct routine equipment checks, and ensure laboratories are fully prepared for upcoming lessons.
  • Uphold and enforce health and safety protocols, including proper handling of chemicals, safe storage, waste disposal, and risk assessment awareness.
  • Provide timely and reliable support during high-pressure periods of the academic year, particularly during IA development and assessment windows.
  • Keep laboratory spaces clean, organized, and ready for use, including clearing and resetting practical workstations.
  • Assist with the maintenance and calibration of scientific instruments to ensure accuracy and
  • reliability in student experimentation.

 

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Hold a University degree
  • Have minimum 3 years of experience
  • Have an excellent command of English
  • Be computer literate
  • Have a creative, dynamic and outgoing personality
  • Strong practical background in laboratory work within Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Ability to confidently set up and troubleshoot advanced or customized experimental systems.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Creative approach to technical challenges with the ability to engineer solutions when commercial apparatus is unavailable.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a professional teaching team.
  • Calm, efficient, and adaptable under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe laboratory practice.

 

  • Experience :
  • Prior experience working in a school or higher-education science laboratory is essential; experience within an IB Diploma Programme environment is highly desirable.
  • Technical certification or relevant qualification in a science field preferred.
