Through its portfolio of climate change, energy, biodiversity, water resources management, circular economy, waste management, disaster risk reduction, and environmental governance initiatives, the Pillar works closely with national institutions, development partners, civil society, and local stakeholders to strengthen institutional capacities, mobilize climate finance, and promote sustainable development in line with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).</p><br> <p>The Climate and Energy Pillar manages an integrated portfolio of projects providing technical assistance, policy support, institutional strengthening, knowledge generation, and strategic partnerships across multiple thematic areas, including climate adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, renewable energy, water governance, and green growth.</p><br> <p>Jordan is among the world's most water-scarce countries and is increasingly affected by climate change through rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, changing rainfall patterns, and growing pressure on limited water resources. These challenges significantly affect agricultural productivity, rural livelihoods, food security, and sustainable management of natural resources.</p><br> <p>The Building Resilience to Cope with Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector (BRCCJ) Project is a seven-year initiative implemented in the Dead Sea Basin across Karak, Madaba, Tafileh, and Ma'an Governorates. The project is jointly implemented by UNDP, FAO, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to enhance climate resilience through improved water management, sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthened institutional capacities.</p><br> <p>UNDP Jordan seeks to recruit a Project Officer to support the effective implementation and day-to-day coordination of project activities. Under the overall supervision of the Programme Analyst, the Project Officer will contribute to the timely delivery of project outputs by coordinating implementation activities with the Project Management Unit (PMU), implementing partners, consultants, contractors, and relevant stakeholders, while ensuring compliance with approved workplans, donor requirements, and applicable UNDP rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.</p><br> <p>The Project Officer will work closely with the PMU and implementing partners to facilitate implementation, monitor progress, support reporting, coordinate project activities, and contribute to achieving the project's intended outcomes.</p><br> <p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><br> <p>The Project Officer will support the effective implementation of project activities under the overall guidance of the Programme Analyst by performing the following functions:</p><br> <ul> <li>Support implementation of project results. </li> <li>Support project reporting, monitoring, and evaluation. </li> <li>Facilitate partnerships and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. </li> <li>Contribute to knowledge management and learning. </li> <li>Perform other project-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.</li> </ul> <ol> <li><strong><u>Support Implementation of Project Results:</u></strong></li> </ol> <p>The Project Officer will:</p><br> <ul> <li>Coordinate and support the day-to-day implementation of project activities in accordance with approved workplans, project documents, budgets, and implementation schedules. </li> <li>Coordinate closely with the Project Management Unit (PMU), FAO, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, and other implementing partners to ensure timely implementation of project activities. </li> <li>Monitor implementation progress against approved outputs, milestones, and quality standards, identifying implementation issues and proposing corrective actions where appropriate. </li> <li>Support implementation of project activities in compliance with UNDP policies, procedures, financial regulations, procurement requirements, and donor agreements. </li> <li>Support preparation of annual and quarterly workplans, procurement plans, implementation schedules, and activity plans. </li> <li>Contribute to preparation of Terms of Reference, technical specifications, procurement documentation, and other implementation documents required for project delivery. </li> <li>Monitor implementation of consultancy assignments and service contracts by reviewing deliverables, monitoring progress, and providing technical feedback in coordination with the Programme Analyst. </li> <li>Provide day-to-day technical guidance and coordination to project consultants, contractors, interns, and service providers assigned to project activities, ensuring timely completion of agreed deliverables. </li> <li>Facilitate coordination among implementing partners to ensure effective implementation and alignment of project interventions. </li> <li>Monitor implementation of project expenditures against approved workplans and budgets and contribute to financial planning and reporting in accordance with UNDP financial procedures. </li> <li>Support preparation of financial forecasts, budget revisions, expenditure monitoring, and funding requests as required. </li> <li>Maintain accurate project documentation and records in accordance with UNDP corporate requirements. </li> <li>Contribute to preparation for project reviews, audits, monitoring missions, and evaluation exercises by ensuring timely availability of supporting documentation and required information. </li> <li>Participate in project meetings, technical working groups, steering committee meetings, donor meetings, and coordination forums as requested. </li> <li>Support implementation of results-based management approaches throughout project implementation. </li> </ul> <p><strong><u>2. RBAS operates across the full spectrum of development settings in the region, including Least Developed Countries, Middle Income Countries, Net Contributor Countries, and countries affected by crisis. </p><br> <p>The Regional Hub for Arab States in Amman serves as the centre for thought leadership, crisis response, and country office support. The Amman Regional Hub hosts the Regional Programme for Arab States, which responds to emerging regional priorities through knowledge generation, regional initiatives, and development projects aligned with the Regional Programme Document 2026–2029. </p><br> <p>Artificial Intelligence has emerged as a defining force in the development landscape of the Arab States region, presenting both transformative opportunities and significant governance challenges. In response to growing demand from governments, donors, civil society, and private sector partners, RBAS is accelerating its engagement on AI as a cross-cutting enabler for sustainable development outcomes. This work is embedded within the <i><strong>Regional Programme</strong></i> and implemented in close collaboration with governance, innovation, and programme teams across the Hub. </p><br> <p>UNDP’s <strong>AI Sprint</strong> is a flagship initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of Artificial Intelligence for sustainable development across the Arab States and Africa. The Sprint is structured around four key pillars: <strong>AI Landscape Assessment (AILA)</strong>, <strong>AI Trust & Safety</strong>, <strong>AI Capacity Building</strong>, and <strong>AI Model Development</strong>. The initiative seeks to equip governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society with the skills, policies, and tools required to leverage AI responsibly and effectively in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the AI Sprint, UNDP supports partner countries in identifying national AI priorities, assessing ecosystem readiness, strengthening governance frameworks, building human capacities, and advancing inclusive AI solutions particularly in Arabic and local languages. </p><br> <p>Within this framework, and under the direct supervision of the head or regional digital and AI team - <strong>Digital Transformation Specialist</strong> the <strong>Artificial Intelligence(AI )Analyst</strong> will be responsible of supporting the implementation of activities across the four AI Sprint pillars, while also providing substantive support to the Regional Programme’s AI-related components and delivering tailored AI technical support to UNDP Country Offices across the Arab States.
