Job Purpose:

The Health and Safety Specialist/Manager ensures the establishment, monitoring, and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with Jordanian Regulation No. 33 of 2023, related to the formation of safety and occupational health committees and the roles of health and safety supervisors. This role supports a safe working environment for all employees and ensures compliance with occupational safety and health standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Ensure adherence to Jordanian Regulation No. 33 of 2023 and other relevant local and international occupational health and safety standards.
• Develop and update health and safety policies in line with legal requirements.
• Participate in forming workplace health and safety committees and facilitate their operation as required by law.
• Oversee the establishment and coordination of health and safety committees.
• Provide training, guidance, and resources to committee members to ensure they effectively fulfill their roles.
• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify workplace hazards.
• Develop, implement, and monitor mitigation strategies to manage identified risks.
• Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine causes and preventive measures.
• Plan and deliver health and safety training programs for employees and committee members.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date health and safety records, including risk assessments, training logs, and incident reports.
• Collaborate with P&C and other departments to implement workplace health and wellness initiatives.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

• Comprehensive understanding of Jordanian occupational health and safety regulations, particularly Regulation No. 33 of 2023.
• Familiarity with international safety standards such as ISO 45001, OSHA, and NEBOSH frameworks.
• Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification processes.
• Knowledge of workplace safety systems, emergency response planning, and crisis management.
• Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of health and safety committees as per legal mandates.
• Proficiency in health and safety reporting and documentation best practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in an educational sector, or a similar field.
• Strong knowledge of local health and safety laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent.
• Experience working within an international school setting.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills and Bilingual.
• Ability to assess risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficient in preparing reports, policies, and procedures.
• Calm under pressure, with the ability to manage emergencies effectively.
