Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a global humanitarian organization operating in more than 30 countries. We are a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and our mission is to create a world free from the devastating effects of armed violence, focusing on:
- Clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war
- Providing explosive ordnance risk education
- Reducing the impact of armed violence through weapons and ammunition management
MAG is has recently been awarded a new project to implement our Weapons and Ammunition work in Jordan.
Overall Purpose of the Postion:
The purpose of this role is to manage the planning, execution, and quality assurance of construction projects, ensuring they meet organizational standards and local regulations. This includes assessing needs, coordinating with authorities, selecting contractors, overseeing site activities, and maintaining quality control and documentation. The role ensures projects are completed on time, within scope, and to high standards through effective planning, oversight, and regular reporting.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assessments and Planning
- Liaise with relevant authorities and the Weapons & Ammunition Management Technical Field Manager Team Leader (WAM-TFM-TL) to undertake assessments of existing facilities and identify needs of future facilities.
- Coordinate with authorities and the WAM TFM TL on specific technical requirements for each facility identified for intervention.
- Develop construction diagrams and plans for buildings based upon technical requirements.
- Implementation Planning:
- Develop a comprehensive implementation plan for construction works in collaboration with relevant authorities and the WAM TFM TL.
2. Tender Design and Evaluation
- Prepare technical specifications and Bill of Quantities for tender documents for each project, ensuring compliance with MAG standards and requirements.
- As part of a review panel, provide evaluations of the technical and practical feasibility of each proposal.
- Conduct detailed bid analysis to identify and recommend the most suitable bid and contractor based on cost, capability, and adherence to project requirements.
3. Site and Contractor Management
- Manage day-to-day interactions with contractors to ensure high-quality construction activities and adherence to performance dates and milestones.
- Oversee contractors’ progress to ensure that agreed work plans and milestones are met on schedule.
- Arrange necessary permissions for transporting building materials to installation sites, ensuring logistical needs are met to prevent project delays.
4. Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Perform ongoing quality assurance checks during the construction phase to verify compliance with MAG standards and relevant Jordanian authorities' requirements.
- Conduct regular quality assurance checks on construction activities to ensure adherence to standards.
- Standards and Specifications Compliance:
- Ensure contractors meet performance dates as specified in the agreed construction plan.
- Confirm that any modifications to the agreed construction diagrams are approved by relevant authorities and the WAM TFM TL before implementation.
- Keep comprehensive records of quality assurance checks, documenting any issues and amendments made to construction plans.
- Capture and archive photographs of the facility and surrounding area before, during, and after construction to document progress and completion.

5. Reporting and Evaluation
- Submit weekly construction updates to the WAM TFM TL, ensuring that any issues arising during site visits are promptly communicated.
- Maintain updated task dossiers for all locations at the MAG office, ensuring that documentation is complete and accessible.
- Document construction progress through photographs taken during site visits and report any issues immediately to the WAM TFM TL.
- Site Visit and Construction Updates:
General
- Work within the framework of MAG’s Code of Conduct and core values.
- Work as part of a team and liaise with other departments to ensure effective communications across the organisation
- Ensure confidentiality of information as required by MAG policies and procedures
- Ensure familiarity with and adhere to all MAG policies and procedures.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may be required.
- Understand and uphold the standards outlined in MAG’s Safeguarding Framework, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with MAG’s work and reporting concerns if they do arise.
