The GIZ Jordan Project " Green Action in Enterprises (GAIN) ” is seeking to hire an “Economic Cooperation and Private Sector Development Advisor – Focus: Green Business Development” based in Jordan- for full-time base employment.
The project “Green Action in Enterprises” (GAIN) was commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Its main objective is that “public and private actors use instruments to promote a Green Economy”. To achieve this goal, GAIN implements activities contributing five outputs: from working with private sector representatives, intermediaries and various service providers to improve framework conditions. Output 5, the output of main concern for this position, aims to strengthen the ecosystem of green and circular business models in Jordan through providing technical support to existing green businesses with focus on SMEs to develop new concepts of green products and services and/or scaling up existing ones. This will be implemented through enhancing access to finance and support from business development organizations including chambers, associations, incubators and universities. Within the scope of Output 5 activities, providing professional advisory services mainly to private sector institutions and intermediaries to support in the implementation of the output objectives
Qualifications and specialist knowledge
- University degree in business development, environmental management, sustainable development or a related field, with strong knowledge of environmental aspects of business development.
- At least five (5) years or more of relevant and progressive experience in the above-mentioned fields.
- Direct experience in working on business models and green industry approaches
- Comprehensive understanding on Jordanian business development and innovation landscape. including knowledge of local market trends, regulations, and opportunities for green and sustainable growth.
- Advanced conceptual and analytical skills, as well as ability to concisely prepare complicated technical issues in briefings and notes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, sense of initiative as required and ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Experience in contracting and managing consultancy contracts, grant agreements, organisation of workshops, events, and capacity development programmes.
- Motivated, reliable and positive team player.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Arabic, both spoken and written.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for the implementation and advisory services of project activities related to green businesses on how to develop new, innovative, and scaled up green and circular products and services.
- Aligning and supporting the development of business development services provided by intermediaries with nascent green businesses supported by the project.
- Support and take over the preparation and management of national and international service contracts and grant agreements and provide facilitation roles between the project international experts and consultants and the beneficiary green businesses on how to better serve the businesses with targeted technical and organizational/strategic support on green business development decisions.
- Building synergies within the project with other outputs to contribute to achieving the common objectives of the project.
- Conducting ecosystem analysis for Jordan’s green business sector and its structure and trends as well as providing strategic support to the project team and partners on utilizing new opportunities in supporting the green business ecosystem with a focus on scalable solutions and high-impact opportunities.
- Building and maintaining professional networks with relevant governmental bodies, public organizations, GIZ, and other donor-funded projects.
- Ensuring proper monitoring and reporting of results and outcomes and supporting the development of information and communications products
- Contributing to knowledge management in the project.
