The “GIZ Yemen projects in Jordan” is seeking to hire a “Accounting Specialist” for full-time base employment.

GIZ has been working in Yemen on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1969. In order to deliver flexible support at a time of war and insecurity, GIZ operates in Business Continuity Management mode in Yemen and additionally from Germany and Amman/Jordan.  Yemen is one of the nexus and peace partner countries of the German development cooperation. GIZ implements projects in the fields of water and sanitation, health, education, private sector, and employment, as well as good governance, peace, and local administration. At the same time, we support measures to rehabilitate basic services for and to enhance resilience of the local population, including particularly vulnerable groups such as internally displaced people.​ Our actions and decisions are guided by several core principles, the safety of our national colleagues as well as their well-being belonging to the most important ones.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • University degree in accounting and auditing or similar area (equivalent of BA or MBA)
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software (such as: SAP and Onsite Reporting)
  • Good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Knowledge of GIZ Procedures and Regulations (P&R) as well as of GIZ-specific software is a plus.
  • Confidential handling of data and information
  • Very good command of English and Arabic (written and spoken), German language is an asset
  • Willingness to upskill, including digital competencies, as required by the tasks to be performed

Main Responsibilities

The position holder:

  • Is responsible for the complete posting of received vouchers after a detailed check of cost codes, project number, booking text etc.
  • Ensures the correct translation of all relevant financial documentation and correspondence from Arabic to English (or German)
  • Ensures the complete filing of the financial archive including the correct labelling of the file folders
  • Monitors payables and receivables and organisation of timely settlements
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analysing and summarizing information about any activity/voucher, if found suspicious during the booking process
  • Shares the cost/income reports of the office journal with projects monthly and if applicable
  • Offers advisory services to projects especially regarding financial planning, expenditure monitoring, preparation of annual financial statements, inventory management and the end-of-the-year closing

We expect a willingness to handle any additional task as assigned by the management, ensuring flexibility in responding to operational demands

Duty station: Amman, Jordan

Emanating from GIZ’s role in enhancing and promoting the efficiency and competency of its political partners and entities and their respective employees, and in view of GIZ’s aim at maintaining and encouraging the stability of employment at its political partners and entities, this position will not be available to any official employee currently working at any of GIZ’s political partners, governmental ministry, department or entity, including any official employees who are on unpaid leave.
