Media and Communications Coordinator

ROLE PURPOSE:

The role of the  Media and Communications Coordinator is to support the Media, Advocacy and Communications team in delivering vital internal and external information and communication products in emergency responses and development programmes that enable excellent media and fundraising activities for members and across Save the Children Jordan. The post-holder will be supporting the delivery of a comprehensive media and communications strategy, ensuring smooth flow of information, good relations with visiting donors and media (including social media), and high-quality reports to showcase Save the Children’s work in Jordan. Additionally, the Communications and Media Coordinator will work closely with the programmes teams to ensure that external messaging and image is consistent.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Support the delivery of effective Programmes, in both development and humanitarian contexts, by:

Programme Support:

  • Acting as a focal point for media visits including strategically leveraging visits for benefits to the country office
  • Conducting visual and written case studies for Save the Children Jordan’s projects for donors’, and uploading on Save The Children content hub reporting and for social media in cooperation with the programmes team.
  • Producing photos, videos, basic graphics,  factsheets and other communications material about Save the Children Jordan and its programmes
  • Providing media coverage for events held by the different programmes and the organization as a whole
  • Managing social media accounts (Facebook, twitter and Instagram), SCJ website for Save the Children Jordan, including developing content and posting
  • Assisting in implementing Save the Children Jordan’s visibility, branding, and child safeguarding and media policies
  • Ensuring written material, photo, video, web content and other resources are produced in alignment with Save the Children child safeguarding guidelines, and the global branding guidelines

 

Communications and Media:

  • Initiating and following up on Purchase Requests (PRs) with the different departments
  • Representing Save the Children Jordan in regional calls
  • Supporting in any advocacy-related tasks
  • Supporting the information and communication flows on the emergency responses and a variety of internal and external stakeholders (including situation reports)
  • Producing accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to the country programme development and emergency programmes– including case studies, success stories, key messages, Q&A’s, blogs, factsheets and donor’s communications requirements
  • Ensuring proper visibility and branding for Save the Children across programmes including donor’s/ partners visibility requirements
  • Collaborating with advocacy and policy colleagues to ensure core messaging is consistent with advocacy and policy strategies within the country programme, including the humanitarian response and that opportunities are explored to promote these strategies
  • Supporting and/or undertaking photography commissions to a high standard, to accompany compelling case studies
  • Maintaining and updating the country programme online platforms including the external website, the internal page on (OneNet) and the social media presence
  • Facilitating photograph and film commissions. Liaise closely with photography/film teams and the emergency communications team in London to ensure coordination of photography/film commissions are managed appropriately on the ground and that assets are shared quickly and also stored within a programme
  • Supporting spokespersons on behalf of the country programme including the emergency response – across press and media outlets 
  • Facilitating media activities such as requests for quotes or interviews (ensuring spokespeople are adequately briefed) or Save the Children member-led or journalists visits to programmes Identifying opportunities within our programme and response activities or the external environment for media activities

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Education to BSc/BA/BEng level in a relevant subject or equivalent field experience
  • 3-5 years of experience of communication activities (including information management) in a challenging environment
  • Excellent language skills in both English and Arabic (written and verbal)
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to fact check, proofread and draft materials, for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’
  • Proven experience in event management and developing bilingual publications including press releases
  • Excellent relationship building skills within programmes under pressure of running emergency responses
  • An initiative-taking, proactive, inspiring attitude with the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly with limited support
  • Ability to deliver high-quality photographs and case studies from affected communities
  • Excellent IT skills, especially in Microsoft Word
  • Excellent understanding of ‘head office’ communication and information needs across fundraising, media and campaigning activities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to multitask, handle details and to maintain organization
  • Strong influencing skills, politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible, being in the field most of the time and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances
